Sid Meier's Colonization

If you've ever played The Avalon Hill's Game Company Conquistador board game and wished there was an electronic version. This is it! I'm an active boardgamer with the Central PA Game Club. I've been a longtime fan of Sid Meier. This game captures the feel of being in the boots of explorers and conquistadors without the angst of decimating the native populations of the America's. I play the French and seek co-operation and trade with the various tribes, while battling the tyranny of Spain and England. The main goal of this game is declaring independence from the mother country. I seek this goal and the eradication of those other evil european nasties. I just wish there was a way to invade their homelands. I invite you to spend hours and hours of time investigating the splendor of first contact and trade with the Iroquois, Apache, Sioux, Aztec, and more. I hope you'll find it as wonderful as I have. I spent many hours playing this classic game of exploration and empire building in the New World on my old PowerMac, and I'm enjoying it again on my souped-up iMac. It remains challenging on the higher levels of difficulty even after all these years! A strong point of the game is that it forces you to make some moral choices. This is a major break from most 4X games that typically involve crushing the opposition. In Colonization, you can wipe out Indian villages, but if you do the penalty involved will keep you from reaching your highest possible score. This is a must-own for any strategy gamer. Enjoy!

Along with Master of Magic, I rate Colonization as one of my favorite games of all time. I played them both for countless hours back in the day. Despite their dated graphics and interfaces, I still regard them as superior to most of the games that are being released today. What's more, this is the DOS version of the original Colonization, which I prefer to the Windows 95 version. Anyone has not played this game and who likes playing games of this genre owe it to themselves to give it a try. I can't recommend it too highly--it's great!

If only Colonization games were as awesome and dynamic as Sid Meier's is. This guy is a genius! A random new world to explore and conquer. Its like a cross between 7 cities of Gold and civilization all rolled into one. ...And a bit of Star ruler too.

Nostalgia aside - it's flawless. Miles better than either of the Civ games, since the setting and small, focused changes elevate the feel of the 4x game. A timeless classic.
