Description
You play Sanjuro Makabe, a Mobile Combat Armor (MCA) pilot and Commander in the UCA Security Force. The UCA was originally formed by three dominant megacorporations (Andra Biomechanics, Armacham Technology Corporation, and Shogo Industries). Originally intended as a joint venture that would ensure the continued profitability of the three organizations that founded it, the UCA is now independent, and the dominant military power in existence.

Your mission is to locate and assassinate a rebel leader known only as Gabriel. All of the action takes place either on the planet Cronus or on the spaceship Leviathan. The Leviathan is the flagship of the UCA and is commanded by Admiral Akkaraju. Cronus is the only known source of the biologically active material known as Kato, an incredibly powerful energy source essential to the process by which interstellar travel is possible.

Your deadly enemy is The Fallen, a fanatical terrorist group lead by the mysterious Gabriel, threatens the balance of power on Cronus, and ultimately, control of Kato. You will fight them on your feet or from within one of the different types of Mobile Combat Armor, a giant mech which can run, duck, strafe, swim or transform into an ultrafast hovertank.

You will know the true power of giant robots!
  • Anime-influenced graphics and gameplay design
  • Fight on foot or pilot a giant mech in both open and urban environments
  • An interesting storyline with two possible endings

A great FPS you might have missed

Shogo was actually created by Monolith, after they made Blood which was the game that really put them on the map, but before they made the smash hits F.E.A.R. and Condemned: Criminal Origins. In was kind of buried underneath an avalanche of other FPS released for the PC around that same time like Unreal, Quake 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Hexen II, Blood II, System Shock 2, Rainbow Six and Half-Life, so it's worth checking out if you missed it back then. When you're piloting your mech you are powerful and can cause big explosions but when you're on foot you're pretty vulnerable and can die in a few shots in you're not careful, so you'll need to be more subdued and methodical. It's an interesting contrast, and the game has a bit of an anime theme to it despite coming from a western developer. I go more in depth with Shogo as part of my Windows 95/98 Hidden Gem video here: https://youtu.be/QEBPbKODlVg

One major FPS from the early 3D era

First I'd like to say that it was horrible to optimize this for modern PCs, but I can't explain it exactly, it ended up working pretty well and I finished Shogo. Honestly it doesn't matter, the game even after 20 long years is still great. I felt like I was playing a Duke Nukem mecha anime. Big F# Guns, Explosions, Giant Robots... Seriously, everything I like most about an FPS at once, i couldn't ask for more. It's kinda hard to believe those were the same guys who brought us that awful Blood 2. I wish i played this sooner. A great piece of work, and I missed it all these years.

Now that's a BFG

We're talking about the Nuke weapon you acquire from one of those giant bosses. The devasation that weapon unleashes is insane. And it's also a good game.

True surprise!

This game has everything you could expect from a first-person shooter and something more. There are lots of guns, big guns and big robots. I mean, in which game you can get into a big transformer, shoot from plasma guns and in a moment go back to down, to your body? The graphics is excellent, story will drive you all the time and action will never stop. And the art stylization is also very interesting, combining japanese anime and manga style. It's a true orginal and a big surprise for me. Don't underestimate this game, it's worth every cent!
