Sherlock Holmes: Secret of the Silver Earring

Despite its shortcomings, I actually really liked this game. The developers clearly put a lot of care and thought into the interconnected web of clues. The voice acting is hokey, but after I got used to it, I actually appreciated some of the line deliveries. The flaws, though, are serious enough for a "buyer beware." There is a not insignificant amount of racism present in the narrative. Sometimes, that racism is challenged. Sometimes that racism comes straight from the mouths of Watson and Holmes. Is it period-appropriate? Yes. Is it jarring and sometimes quite uncomfortable? Also yes. Another flaw is the difficulty. I would NOT recommend playing this game without at least a hint guide, if not a full walkthrough. I tried for the better part of two hours to finish the first day's investigation before I caved and looked up the clues I was missing. Overall, although the game shows its age in a lot of ways and has some serious flaws, I did personally enjoy the experience and think others would like it as well.

This is the Sherlock Holmes boxed version that had some technical issues.... Once installed it kept crashing to the desktop. Although I was able to play it in short, choppy segments, for me, it never seemed worth the effort to struggle through it's glitches..... therefore I ultimately left in dusty limbo on the shelf. I may give it another try via GOG presumably w/o the faulty gameplay. I give it a 3 as a benefit of the doubt in it's entirety.

So when will you bring the Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes adventures (Rose Tattoo & )to GOG???
