I figured this game might be much more like Mechwarrior 2 or Earthsiege 1 at the least, but its nowhere near as good as either of those classic giant mech games. When I first loaded up Shattered Steel I like the faster pacing of it compared with Earthsiege, but when it came to the actual combat and campaign it just pales in comparison. There's not as much customization and the enemies you fight are just really uninspired to say the least.
The ugly as sin textures, poor view distance and simplsitic AI are just a little bit too much. Back when it was released it was a pretty great action game but now it's just too straightforward and familiar.
In my days i did only testet out the demo of this game. in those days i think the demo was fun. Now i did get this game and found out that game was just aged badly in all fronts like story, graphics, gameplay and teknikal (shots and rocets is going thru target without registering a hit).
The deformable voxel terrain and the branching missions (plus the "twist" in the plot halfway through the beginning missions) makes an otherwise humdrum Mechwarrior clone a little more enjoyable. Pity no sequel ever surfaced.
I grabbed this game having never played it before 2012. Wow, did this game age badly! At first I didn't even know what was going on. The pseudo 3D graphics reminded me of a 1st generation PSone game. The controls where not that great either. Whatever fun there was to be had here is long since passed. Now Shattered Steel only tells stories of yesteryear to the nurses in halls of GoG, waiting for family and friends to visit. All of whom have moved on.
