Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

I have played this before many years ago, such a fun game. Thanks to GOG for the giveaway :*

Sequel to Shantae: Risky's Revenge. Shantae and the Pirate's Curse improves the metroidvania formula of the previous games. Dungeons and towns are far bigger. The story takes place after Risky's Revenge, Shantae lost her powers at the end of the previous games so now she must use pirate tools to get past obstacles. The sprites and backgrounds are more detailed. The game is not as easy or short as the previous game which is a plus. The only cons I can think of is that the game resolution is capped at 1080p and the final dungeon is way too hard. If you enjoyed Shantae: Risky's Revenge then you will really enjoy this.

About 14h of play, more arcade elements that first part of series, but still good, funny and sometimes adorable models, game worth of time and money...

Shantae: Risky's Revenge, was already a nice and charming little game. Shantae and the Pirate's Curse easily tops it's predecessor as it is bigger, faster, sexier and even more hilarious! In my opinion this game is on a par with the best explorative plattformers out there and while it's a bit light on the exploration part, it easily makes up for it with it's heart-warming narrative and lovable characters. My only real complaint is that the german translation is less than stellar and the game makes it virtually impossible to change the language settings as it always installs in the language of your operating system therefore it only gets 4 out of 5 stars from me (really, who does that, and why???).

Shantae was a pleasant surprise to me. It has a cheeky 90's anime style that gave me a few hearty chuckles and the music was catchy to boot. If you were to take Monster/Wonder Boy as an analogue, Shantae is nowhere near as challenging; but as far as flirtatious anime fun goes, Shantae takes the cake. A cake is a type of burger right? Cake/Burger
