Description
The year is 2054. Magic has returned to the world, awakening powerful creatures of myth and legend. Technology merges with flesh and consciousness. Elves, trolls, orks and dwarves walk among us, while ruthless corporations bleed the world dry. You are a shadowrunner - a mercenary living on the fringes of society, in the shadows of massive corporate arcologies, surviving day-by-day on skill and instinct alone. When the powerful or the desperate need a job done, you get it done... by any means necessary.

In the urban sprawl of the Seattle metroplex, the search for a mysterious killer sets you on a trail that leads from the darkest slums to the city’s most powerful megacorps. You will need to tread carefully, enlist the aid of other runners, and master powerful forces of technology and magic in order to emerge from the shadows of Seattle unscathed.

The unique cyberpunk-meets-fantasy world of Shadowrun has gained a huge cult following since its creation nearly 25 years ago. Now, creator Jordan Weisman returns to the world of Shadowrun, modernizing this classic game setting as a single player, turn-based tactical RPG.
  • Powerful Content Creation: With the Shadowrun Returns Editor, everyone is empowered to create and share their own stories and campaigns with the Shadowrun community. You can even explore the entire Shadowrun Returns Seattle campaign in the Editor directly - see how it was built and borrow as much as you need to jump-start your own creations! No advanced coding or art skills are required to create content using the SRR Editor.
  • Gripping Tactical Combat: When you’re running the shadows, every turn matters. Choose your actions wisely - move to better cover, charge into melee, or lob a fireball into a crowd of enemies. With the variety of weapons and spells at your disposal, every turn is filled with meaningful choices. A successful run requires commanding a team of runners with the right balance of combat, tech, and magical abilities.
  • Skill-Based Character Progression: Choose a starting character archetype and build from there! Street Samurai and Physical Adepts use advanced combat skills to dominate the battlefield, Shamans and Mages summon powerful allies and cast deadly spells, while Riggers and Deckers provide critical technological support, projecting their consciousness directly into drones and computer systems. Shadowrun Returns’ classless skill system allows you to grow your character in any direction you choose. Want to start summoning spirits as an ork Shaman and evolve into a cybered-up weapon specialist? Do it!
  • Engaging 2D/3D Art Style: Shadowrun Returns mixes dynamic 3D characters and lighting with a vibrant, hand-painted environment. Illustrated character portraits bring every conversation to life. Explore a world filled with detail, from the slums of the Redmond Barrens to the extravagant offices of powerful corporations.

Shadowrun Returns To Electronic Gaming

-Shadowrun Returns is a blend of better graphics and gameplay, but only if you have played the ancient console versions. -SR is presented in tile-based 2D backgrounds and objects, with 3D animated PCs and NPCs. The 2D tiles are beautifully and cleanly drawn. The 3D characters are chunky, low-poly models, with distinctions for race and gender. -The core game has few weapons and mods, but success rates with gear are far more dependent on characters stats. Mods are not directly applied to a weapon, rather each mod is a new weapon purchased separately, which I found annoying. Also, there is only one 3D model for each weapon, regardless of modifications. -Character customization is where SR truly shines (unless you're a decker)! SR allows characters to be imported into new games, so playing community scenarios will quickly develop your runner into a powerful agent. -SR Matrix runs are underwhelming compared to the Genesis Shadowrun version. SR never changes perspective when entering the Matrix, but building a powerful deck in SR, however, is far less tedious! -Music and sound-effects are adequate, if only just barely. Weapons sound as they should, and the music is up-tempo and techno. Eventually I just turned the music off, finding it more distraction than mood-setter. -SR falters on game saves. Checkpoints don't kill the game, but not being able to save when I leave the game is a sin!

Almost perfect

this game is almost perfect, remind me of Deus Ex or Vampire: The Mascarade Bloodlines. but it does not reach the perfection like Baldur's Gate, and this, because there is no multiplayer mode, which is rather disapointing for a RPG. but there is an editor, which is pretty cool. one last thing: the game was made by a team lead by Jordan Weisman, who is the original creator of the Shadowrun pen&paper RPG.

Good but linear

I had a lot of fun playing this game (that is the point after all) it had a good story and functional gameplay plus it covers some very important events within shadowruns history that as a tabletop player I reallyliked , I will say I liked Dragonfall more due to the more fleshed out characters on your team and a bit more freedom.

Best iso pnp rpg out there. Want more.

The basic mechanics of this game are superb and on the order of the best out there. Even when compared to some much larger titles and better funded projects (one of which I help fund and own). For the price this is hands down the best isometric, pnp rpg out there that I know of. I really hope to see more from this group and I sincerely hope they release Shadowrun Online on GOG and for linux as well. If you want a comparison I have this and Wasteland 2. Sorry, wasteland 2 was ok but seemed to drag. This game did not. The story line in Shadowrun is better. The action is better. The graphics are actually better but not by much and the mechanics are vastly superior. I found very few bugs in this game and none of them that were show stoppers. I actually bought this and dragonfall for myself and later bought them both for two other people because the game is just that good.

Short but sweet

The game is VERY good turn based RPG, it has its flaws(as a shaman why can't I summon a spirit whenever, instead of at set, pre-determined locations?), but overall this is the BEST and most interesting turn based RPG I have played. And I have played games like wasteland 2 and xcom, and frankly, they were no where near the level of this game. The there are some side quests to keep you engaged other than the main mission, and the dialogue choices are different enough to not bore you after an hour. But the biggest problem is how short it is, I think i maybe spend 10 hours on this game? I got this game for $3 so 10 hours is a pretty good deal in my books, but I wish the game could have been longer for what it's worth, because it was definitely a very fun experience to behold.
