The Shadow Warrior 2: Bounty Hunt Part 2 content update delivers thirteen thrilling new missions, two spectacular new weapons, and three powerful new perks for Lo Wang and the gang. Strap on your katana and go for one last ride alone or in co-op through missions like Lost Girls, Missing Yakuza, and Danger Zone with new weapons like the Tactical Bullet Spewing Machine (TBSM).

The Shadow Warrior 2: Bounty Hunt Part 1 content update piles on the action with fourteen wild new missions, two dazzling new weapons, and four tantalizing new perks for Lo Wang and the gang. Battle alone or with up to four ninjas in crime in some of the most over the top missions yet like Plague of the Bunny Lords, 50 Shades of Shade, and Danger Zone on Mt. Akuma. Strike at the demon hordes with new perks like Revenge and Shared Pain or arm up with the new Medusa Ray and EX-GF01 minigun.

Shadow Warrior 2’s The Way of the Wang Content Update opens up a new area within the game’s hub town, presenting seven special trials for Lo Wang to unlock and overcome. Players will be able to earn new crafting abilities, weapon gem slots, and base weapon stat upgrades upon completing each new trial with the new Fist of Gozu battle axe awaiting those warriors that complete all of the trials. The update also includes three new tiers for Insane difficulty and five new achievements to unlock in the campaign.

Shadow Warrior 2 is the stunning evolution of Flying Wild Hog’s offbeat first-person shooter following the further misadventures of former corporate shogun Lo Wang. Now surviving as a reclusive mercenary on the edge of a corrupted world, the formidable warrior must again wield a devastating combination of guns, blades, magic and wit to strike down the demonic legions overwhelming the world. Battle alongside allies online in four-player co-op or go it alone in spectacular procedurally-generated landscapes to complete daring missions and collect powerful new weapons, armor, and arcane relics of legend.

Five years have passed since Lo Wang shattered the alliance between his deceitful former boss and the ancient gods of the shadow realm. Despite noble intentions, Lo Wang’s efforts to annihilate the darkness corrupted the world, creating a strange and savage new order where humans and demons live side by side.

The once feared warrior now lives in the shifting wildlands outside the reach of his enemies and the neon glow of Zilla’s cybernetic metropolis, scratching out a meager existence as a hired sword for the local Yakuza clans. When a simple mission goes wrong, Lo Wang is drawn into a volatile conflict between a brilliant young scientist, a controversial cult leader, and a terrifying new drug known as Shade. The sharp-tongued hero must once again wield lethal blades, staggering firepower, and archaic magic to purge the world of evil.
  • Blades and Bullets – Lo Wang delivers his own brand full throttle brutality with an expanded array of over 70 lethal blades and explosive firearms to overcome the demonic opposition. Become a whirlwind of steel and blood with razor sharp katana, short swords, crescent blades, and hand claws or unleash a hellish symphony of ornate firearms to decimate your enemies.
  • Four Player Co-Op – Battle through the expansive campaign alone or team up as a four-player typhoon of destruction online in campaign co-op mode. Tackle challenging primary missions or thrilling side quests while maintaining your own ninja style with customizable armor, items, and valuable loot from your triumphs.
  • Procedural Environments – The breach between the human and demon realms created an interdimensional hernia resulting in constant shifts to the world of Shadow Warrior 2. Procedurally generated landscapes and paths bring new twists and turns to once familiar terrain and routine missions.
  • Brutal Damage System – Choose your weapon based on the situation at hand and then dismantle everything that stands in your path with an advanced gore system. Use precision blade strikes to separate limbs and heads or switch to heavy ordinance and blow a hole right through colossal beasts.
  • Custom Upgrade System – Upgrade weapons in your arsenal with up to three stones at once to improve performance or augment them with devastating elemental effects. Collect karma, amulets, and armor to enhance Lo Wang’s power and shift his death-dealing artistry into overdrive.

As a fan of the original

I really love oldschool FPS. I like the retro graghics, the witty one liners, all of it. This is a great nod to those old school FPS titles. Lo Wangs character is funny as ever. The gameplay is fast and furious but not nearly as difficult as the originals. Im only a few hours in and am really enjoying the game and think its well worth a shot. If your afraid of humor then don't play the game. These games were never politically correct and never should be.

Not a real sequel . . .

The first one (2013) is better in every way other than graphically. This one has more replay value though so take your pick ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For SW1 fans: Think before you buy

Shadow Warrior 2 is not a complete disaster but it's NOT a sequel to Shadow Warrior (2013). Core gameplay of linear, fast-paced shooter has been gutted and replaced with a Diablo-esque FPS ARPG game, where you spend time constantly fiddling around with the metagame, raising skills and upgrading weapons with never-ending stream of uninspired, generic loot, and grinding for money and equipment. The mix is flavoured with boring side missions taking place in procedurally generated levels that are empty save for occasional group of bullet-spongy enemies with a mini-boss. Devs burned the bridge between them and the original Shadow Warrior fans. Whether it was to appeal to "broader audience" or to just create something different I don't know. Just keep in mind that this is not the Shadow Warrior you've been looking for, unless you loved Diablo and/or Borderlands, in that case this is a game for you.

Aspiring but Flawed

I want to fit a lot into a short space so I'm going to use bulletpoints: Gameplay- + Combat much improved from the original, great weapon and enemy variety, maneuverability and verticality. + Melee combat is satisfying and forces you to move around quickly to avoid death. + Upgrades and elemental effects allow for some customisation and variety. - Guns are still weak and unsatisying to use, the only exception to this rule being Gauss Cannons. - Despite the freedom one is given by the more open world you frequently bump into invisible walls or can't take a more direct route to a location. - The respawn on death system is awful, death is barely punished at all, even on higher difficulties. - Combat is generally quite easy to cheese, you can easily retreat and heal, if you min/max and buy optimal upgrade paths this becomes even more of an issue. - Fights involving large amounts of enemies quickly become tiresome, forcing you to constantly move while making small jabs at the horde of enemies on your tail. - Bugs such as large quest enemies glitching through the floor and forcing you to restart the mission, and enemies that just get confused if you leave their patrol area (both occur rarely) disrupt gameplay. Story/Characters: - Worse than the original, which had unexpectedly good writing. - Most characters aren't likeable or interesting, Kamiko is annoying and Lo Wang tries too hard to be funny, although managed to make me chuckle a few times. + You can skip dialogue and cutscenes which is great for when you just want to kill stuff. Graphics: + You can play at higher settings even on a modest rig, effects like Bloom and Chromatic Abberation can be disabled if you dislike them, visuals are colourful and not plagued by ugly filters like many other games, overall very good looking. + Combat visuals are visceral and satisfying. - Some bugs such as rain inside building, trees poking through buildings, gaping holes into the void and random freezes. Overall a solid 7/10.

Got more Wang, well partly.

Well, got to about 80% way through, and then started SW 2013 as a comparison. I think what we see here in the reviews is an age demographic difference. Why, well quite simply the two games are very different. Let me cover some areas: Graphics: Whist this ones engine is obviously a step up in terms of graphics, it also mars one of the key elements - sword play - which becomes a mass of garish colors and OTT shaders which is a particular "feature" of most games now. In 2013 you could plan and see your sword swinging and plan to chop certain bits off. Story: Whilst a key point in the first one, this one has no story at all. It also has no memorable characters. There is no driving force to get through the game. Each of the levels feels much like before (mainly as there are only three distinct maps with some randomisation), and they seem to be more in the deathmatch style. Combat: An advanced "crafting system" - another key buzzword nowadays - really doesn't do much. The pistol, machine, and shotguns are useless. The upper weaponry has its use (mainly for the boss (same one * 3). In the 2013 version, all weapons other than flamethrower were good in circumstances. Sword play is basically a mess of color and shaders. Comedy: One of the key elements of 2103 version, lost in part in this one. Still some funny moments and dialog with the hogi replacement can be funny, but cookies are not funny, and most of the humour is bland. Overall, this isn't a bad game, its just not the greatness the 2013 version had in most areas. It feels like the developers stopped playing SW and took a look at the big titles COD/Battlefield type things so beloved of the younger generation and went down that route. Me personally, I prefer the Serious Sam, lower graphics, wacky humour, hyper combat which you can actually see type of game that the first showed than this. Plus 1 kudos to the devs for releasing here though. Me, I started 2013 version to compare, now hooked again!!
