This game is awesome - uses similar mechanics as Commados and provides the same ballanced level of frustration and satisfaction in one package . Great sceneries, sometimes quite challenging, even storyline here is really easy and interesting to follow. Very pleasant and unusuall cell shaded graphics is really nice even today, after years.
I play with keyboard and mouse and with Xbox One Controller. Both are excellent in this game. I can't believe how well it is optimized for basic controllers. What a game! You must buy NOW!
Very difficult game. It requires you to repeat a mission many time to find a way to finish. Also, with the badge system, it makes you to think outside of the box to achieve it
The main problem with the game is it's difficulty, I played the game for 13 hours, got to the 7th out 13 missions, I was at the end of the mission, had been playing it for over 2 hours, when I was about to leave the area and the game spawned extra soldiers right at the exit area, where there were already some enemies that I left alive because there was no reason to kill them, you're not supposed to kill every guard necessarily, you're even discouraged by how punishing the game is.
That left me in a situation where I had 14 guards in a small area each looking at each other, and only three characters to use, couldn't kill any of them without warning at least a few others, after a long time I just found impossible to continue.
The game wasn't fun anymore, just frustrating, there are some charming characters and some good japanese voice acting and an interesting setting, but the difficulty make it frustrating instead of fun, I play games to have fun, not just for the challenge.
I don't have a problem with challenging games, I enjoyed the old Resident Evil games and Resident Evil 4, even on professional, the Ninja Gaiden games, System Shock 2, the Kotor games and others, but this is just hard, not challenging.
I would recommend this game to people that are fans of the genre and fans of hard games, like the souls or x-com games, for everyone else I would say it's a pass, if you play games for fun this is not for you.
TL:DR - Not sure, try the demo; It's definitely worth the money. It's fantastic, best stealth tactics game since commando's... I think it's better but I'm bias towards Japanese stuff :P
Wow! Play the demo if you aren't sure but be prepared to pay for it. This game is fantastic! I highly recommend playing it with English subs and Japanese voices, it adds to the immersion. Something I learnt from anime is that Japanese voices in a Japanese setting are infinitely better than the English versions.
The gameplay, as everyone has said, takes a page from Commando's book. If you've never played Commando's give the Blades of the Shogun demo a try (I know, a demo! I was shocked too). A great stealth game with a good story to back it up. It's a very well made game, I've had one bug where one of the characters started 'gliding' but that's only happened once. It's got a really nice art style and each of the characters have their own personality which, while not that important, add's to the game in heaps.
I've sat down to play this on a few occasions where I intended to play for an hour or so and looked at the clock 3-4 hours later and just shrugged, it was time well spent! I've played dishonored 2, Titanfall 2 and many other great big budget games this year but I honestly think this is my game of the year.
