I'm a big fan of this game back from my Playstation and N64 days, and I've gone through the older PC version probably dozens of times. It's one of my favorite action platformers of all time. Honestly I'd have been happy if they'd just upped the textures and resolution and called it a day - but the amount of care that went into this remaster really shows. It's gorgeous, and I'm so happy to be able to play through the levels and minibosses that were meant to be in the original game but were cut for time reasons. It really fleshes out all of the murderers' stories. The new areas feel like they've always been there and the music matches the mood perfectly. I've bought other Night Dive remasters (most recently Doom 64) and they're all excellent. Highly recommend!
I remember getting a disk with this game about 14 years ago when I bought a local gaming magazine and how awesome it was.
Everything seems to be in place with this remaster: smooth graphics and effects that flesh out even greater the horror tone of this game, runs great, and has even cut content put back into it.
Two small issues on my side that will hopefully get fixed in future patches:
- the auto-targeting sometimes when there are multiple enemies doesn't quite work by design, so please bring back the manual targeting lock. I got into a scenario where an enemy was on the verge of death and another one came in besides him and it got auto-targeted, leaving the first enemy heal himself
- had two crashes crashes with "Access Violation Exception (0xc0000005) in module amdvlk64.dll" (taken from the CRASHLOG.txt file inside the game directory)
Sincerely thank the developers of one of the greatest games of all time and the ones who remastered it in such a way that made everything stand out even better.
If it wasn't already a given, Shadow Man is my favorite game of all time. I've owned and played the original on all platforms, including the not so great PlayStation 1 port. It is great to see the game finally remastered in the Kex Engine, giving it smoother controls, updated textures, dynamic lighting and much better physics, among other things. I can tell that Nightdive Studios put a lot of love and care into this game, as they do all of their games.
Shadow Man is a beautifully designed open world experience with plenty of immersive story depth, solid voice acting, a great soundtrack, and hours upon hours of gameplay. In the game, you play as Michael LeRoi who becomes endowed with The Masks Of Shadows by a Voodoo priestess called Mama Nettie. This transforms him into Shadow Man, a Voodoo warrior who protects the world of the living (known as Liveside) from threats coming from the hellish world of the dead (known as Deadside). Through a prophetic dream, Mama Nettie reveals to Shadow Man that Legion is ushering in an apocalypse, using Dark Souls (the immortal souls of damned warriors). Legion sends in an army of 5 serial killers to Deadside to construct a cathedral to pain, an asylum that is powered by these Dark Souls, and Shadow Man is tasked with having to stop them. Armed with the power of the Dark Souls and the most powerful Voodoo weapons ever created, Shadow Man must find a way to stop Legion and his army.
I've played this game using both an Xbox 360 controller and a keyboard and mouse, and both work great! It's great to see this game being remastered and released for new generations of gamers to experience. I highly recommend this game to anybody that loves the horror genre of video games.
I had a blast reliving shadowman as it should be. the controlls are great and i have not found any bugs. the only con is there is no way on the in-game menu to change look invertion, you have to use a console command to do it. to find the command use ~ to bring up the console and type help
and yes it does support gamepad. i used a xbox one gamepad to play.
hope this helps =D
WOW. This is what a remaster should be!. It's like an entirely new game. The graphics are all updated, the lighting is amazing. Some of the textures are brand new i think. It just looks fantastic. The controls are great too. I just plugged in my xbox controller and played. No need to change any controls, just plug and play. It runs flawlessly. Has acheivements.
Just all in all a perfect 10. If you're a fan of this game of old, its totally worth 20 bucks.
Just play it for 5 mins, and you instantly see how many improvements they've done to this old gem.
