At the very heart of Septerra lies the Core, a huge Biocomputer. Seven continents at different elevations, each with its own unique people and culture, orbit around the Core.
According to an ancient prophecy, Septerra's continents will one day converge and join in orbit together on one level - this is the Legacy of Marduk, the Creator's son. The Chosen, fanatical believers in the supremacy of their own wisdom and technology, impatiently try to force the issue - causing a global catastrophe which threatens the lives of all Septerreans.

Meanwhile, amongst the Junkers, a young woman named Maya gets caught up in the developing maelstrom and soon finds herself confronted by seemingly insurmountable problems. Without help she stands no chance of fulfilling the Prophesy before Septerra perishes. But whom can she trust in a world torn by war and treacherous intrigue - a world on the edge of the abyss?

Has a lot to offer

This is one of those that is difficult to recommend entirely and I can 100% understand why many will prefer not to play this at all. I must have played it somewhere between a half and a full dozen times total over the years but I doubt I ever will again. One of the biggest strengths is that this is something you can really get into. It has a fascinating world and lore, the conflict is gripping, the settings, characters, etc. are deeply memorable and like StarCraft and Star Wars it doesn't feel the need to spoon feed you every single little thing, a lot of things just are and it feels much more natural. The magic system allows you to do some incredibly cool stuff and the cards used for it feel earned as you get access to them gradually over the course of it meaning that there's usually something new still yet to come as you play all the way through this. This is also true of the playable characters and their main attacks, nine of each, not all equally useful. Though the downside is that the gameplay loop is ultimately just not quite enough to keep you engaged throughout the entire thing. I would say that the last five to ten percent of this, each time that I played it, I kept going just because I wanted to get to the end. It is at least a little bit too long even though the plot itself does warrant its length overall. There are more limited turn-based strategy games out there but even so this is still slightly underwhelming. Combat is sometimes very frequent. There are areas where you'll barely spend a few seconds between fights and this ends up tedious. The game could do more to make it clear what exactly you’re meant to do to proceed. There's some moon logic to puzzles. The graphics are good, the voice acting holds up. You encounter a number of different cultures over the course of this and all of them feel authentic. Everywhere feels lived in and as a bit of a mythology nerd it was quite fun recognizing where they took inspiration, for example a Trickster God.

Better than remembered

I played this game, when I was 13-14, with limited english knowledge, end struck in level 4 I think. Few months ago, I found its CD, and after I found out it's broken, decided to buy the game. If you want to play a game, what is genuinly make you think, combine, investigate, then this is your game! Not foolproof, realy hard, but rewarding! From today's perspective, the battles are slow paced, but it is bearable. Have fun!

Its 1998...

your just coming off of the intense emotional rollercoaster ride of epicness that is FF7, nothing else is quite gving you that feeling of world vibe and gameplay. You wake up for the day and get recruited for a kmart expedition to procure the weeks nourishment, while the pack leader scavenges for food, you a young cub wander into the discount games section, only to find FF7: Merica edition (AKA Septerra Core). said game is aquired and played for 2 weeks until the compaq desk unit dies from sheer intimidation and raw graphical strain. Sadness....Flash forward 30 years and refind ff7 : Merica edition on GOG.....praise be to the project of cds dressed in red!

Niche game

Actually the game's not that bad, good story and good gameplay. The only drawback is you can't skip combat most of the time and the animations are way too long to be a enjoyable experience... sometimes you don't know what to do even after talking with every single soul in sight. So, this game is not for everyone, keep that in mind
