Sam is a six-foot canine detective with a love of justice. Max is a hyperkinetic rabbity-thing with a taste for mayhem. Together, they're the Freelance Police. And they're about to save the world.

Good to have you back, little buddy!
In 2006, the comic book crime-fighting duo Sam & Max starred in the first full-fledged episodic game from Telltale, the studio that went on to make The Walking Dead and Batman: The Enemy Within .

Now everyone's favorite dog and rabbity-thing are back in Sam & Max Save the World Remastered, a new version of their first season of episodic games that has been lovingly updated by a small group of the original developers with the blessing of Sam & Max creator Steve Purcell.

Return to the adventure game that was once called "gaming's first sitcom" and is today known as "the remaster you didn't know you were waiting for." With enhanced graphics, new widescreen and gamepad support, five new musical tracks, and the same brain-tickling puzzles and offbeat humor that won it IGN's Best Adventure GOTY award back in the day, Sam & Max Save the World Remastered is a modern classic that you'll love to play—or play again.

Now, let's go save the world...
It's just another day at the office for the self-proclaimed Freelance Police when the Commissioner calls in with a disturbing report: former child stars are running amok in the street! What starts as an open-and-shut case of idiotic vandalism balloons into an all-out conspiracy as Sam and Max encounter one miscreant after another who have been mysteriously hypnotized. (You can tell from the "spinny thing" they do with their eyes.)

Who's the source of this malfeasance, and what is their dastardly plan? Cracking this case will require Sam's nose for detective work, Max's lack of conscience, an assortment of inventory items, and a little help from neighbors Sybil Pandemik, Bosco, and Jimmy Two-Teeth. From Sam & Max's street to the White House lawn, inside the internet, and all the way to the moon, this baffling mystery gets weirder and funnier as it unfolds.

Censorship and HORRIBLE new voice actor

Lots of jokes have been censored... these devs clearly do not care about or understand the characters or the humor at all. And Bosco's voice actor has been changed. And they are completely awful, listen for yourself: https://youtu.be/LFgRUaoM8k4 Literally none of Bosco's jokes land now because the voice acting is so terrible.

Censorship shouldn't be rewarded

Sam and Max is one of my favourites adventure franchises. It's very sad the new developers felt the need to censor the very thing that makes Sam&Max the gaming icons they are: politically incorrect humour. And to be honest, Sam&Max are not even on South Park level of political incorrectness. They are very tame in comparison. Still, the developers thought it was a good idea to take a series known for its politically incorrect humor and neuter it completely. And then they will complain about their version flopping. What a surprise... New graphics are good but that's useless without the humour.

Yes and NO.

If you've played the original, this is basically the same in terms of gameplay, story and puzzles. There are some changes, though: POSITIVE: - Graphics have been completely overhauled. It's not just some HD resolution added and calling it a day. The entirety of the 3D models and textures have been redone with better quality and much better lighting. - Sound has been improved as well. - Gameplay has been streamlined to be less clunky. There are more control options than before. NEGATIVE: - Some voice clips are still taken straight from the original, which speaks of a problem in quality control. - The big negative, and the one that trumps all the positive ones is the censorship. Many lines of dialogue have been changed or outright removed in order to keep the game "safe" for sensitive people. Look, I'm 100% against censorship, but I can at least excuse it in certain games. Like, say, a japanese game that has been brought to the west can be forgiven for changing a few things, since cultural differences can make some things uncomfortable even for normally though people, but SAM & MAX? Their entire shtick is that they're politically incorrect. Censoring Sam & Max is like trying to make a Doom game without the gore or a Star Wars movie without the spaceships. You just DON'T DO IT. It's wrong, entirely against the tone of the franchise and insulting to the fans. Don't buy this game and don't pirate it either. Send a message to the developers: WE DON'T WANT THIS. We deserve better.

Decent game, Heavily censored

First off: the game runs well on Windows 10, it's got a few nice quality of life improvements like being able to hold a button to run, and a button to show hotspots; and the lighting effects do indeed look nice. However, the original series ALSO runs fine on Windows 10, and this being a website for people who enjoy playing older games despite their graphical and gameplay fidelity not holding up as well in (current year), I would highly recommend the original more. This HD re-release has been censored in quite a few areas, jokes that would barely qualify as edgy have been completely scrubbed from the game. Not only that, but a key character who appears in every level has had his voice acting completely scrubbed and replaced with a different voice actor. (who, in my opinion, does a fucking terrible job. His voice doesn't sound half as believable coming out of the character than the original voice actor, despite this change being made for the sake of "inclusion" and "authenticity")

Censored & fan disappointing

- Censored script, which is exactly the type of thing the Freelance Police would fight against - Censored VO - I don't know how else to call the new Bosco voice when the original one had zero technical or contextual problems - The updated graphics doesn't mean they're good - strange outlines and shadows everywhere, which doesn't fit at all with the original comics, games or cartoons style - The inventory is changed from a line at the bottom of the screen to a full-screen box - minor issue which is nevertheless annoying Conclusion: If you're a fan from the times of the original - you may be disappointed like me, especially if like me you didn't manage to refund it. New players who don't do comparing - the remaster will be just fine.
