Sam is a six-foot canine detective with a love of justice. Max is a hyperkinetic rabbity-thing with a taste for mayhem. Together, they're the Freelance Police. And they're about to save the world.

Good to have you back, little buddy!
In 2006, the comic book crime-fighting duo Sam & Max starred in the first full-fledged episodic game from Telltale, the studio that went on to make The Walking Dead and Batman: The Enemy Within .

Now everyone's favorite dog and rabbity-thing are back in Sam & Max Save the World Remastered, a new version of their first season of episodic games that has been lovingly updated by a small group of the original developers with the blessing of Sam & Max creator Steve Purcell.

Return to the adventure game that was once called "gaming's first sitcom" and is today known as "the remaster you didn't know you were waiting for." With enhanced graphics, new widescreen and gamepad support, five new musical tracks, and the same brain-tickling puzzles and offbeat humor that won it IGN's Best Adventure GOTY award back in the day, Sam & Max Save the World Remastered is a modern classic that you'll love to play—or play again.

Now, let's go save the world...
It's just another day at the office for the self-proclaimed Freelance Police when the Commissioner calls in with a disturbing report: former child stars are running amok in the street! What starts as an open-and-shut case of idiotic vandalism balloons into an all-out conspiracy as Sam and Max encounter one miscreant after another who have been mysteriously hypnotized. (You can tell from the "spinny thing" they do with their eyes.)

Who's the source of this malfeasance, and what is their dastardly plan? Cracking this case will require Sam's nose for detective work, Max's lack of conscience, an assortment of inventory items, and a little help from neighbors Sybil Pandemik, Bosco, and Jimmy Two-Teeth. From Sam & Max's street to the White House lawn, inside the internet, and all the way to the moon, this baffling mystery gets weirder and funnier as it unfolds.

Excellent remaster, great game

This remaster is excellent: I love the new lighting, subtle redesigns, music cues, remixed music, and UI, and the slightly changed timing on the humour does wonders. I played these in 2007 and stuck with Telltale through "The Wolf Among Us" (you can Google my username + Mixnmojo), so revisiting them has been a joy. It's good to know the other (and superior) two seasons are coming! It takes a bitttt to find its feet (episodes 1+2 have some weak bits), but once it does, it does so with a crash and a bang. Everyone says episode 4 is where it really gets going, and I'm inclined to agree. I see a lot of people angry that they recast a black character (to have a black actor play him instead of the black guy in the original), but I think that's the right decision. Otherwise, as best as I can figure (and I've alt-tabbed between the remaster and original), they've tightened up the script a teensy bit (what the Internet is calling "censorship" because a joke about Down's Syndrome was changed) and updated a couple of jokes (like the box in the office), and it now just looks like a game released this decade as opposed to something made, low budget, in 2006. Highly recommended!

Good remastered

Although they have removed several jokes, it is a good option to remember your childhood

Destory the internet, solve all problems

Oh boo hoo! A dozen jokes where changed because the original writers didn't like what they said! The whole game is ruined by the new voice actor! Bah. If there's one thing these days that bakes my bacon is the complete madness that is the moaning of voices that just because a game blah blah blah, yak yak yak! In all seriousness, it's no big deal that some jokes were changed and Bosco got a new voice actor. If it bothers you THAT much, you can just play the original version. Oh look! You can play the original version when you buy this one! Amazing! How about you stop be Myrains and get off your high horse!

Ignore the censorship complaints.

First, the censorship complaints. That much is true, and it is PC-related like others have claimed. That said, I looked up what the actual changes were and -- Don't sweat it. I don't think they needed to do it, but it doesn't really hurt the games either. The originals are included anyway! Other reviews link to lists about it, and if the idea of this censorship bothers you, go read what was actually changed from what to what and see if it still bothers you. It DID bother me until I did that, and now I don't care. I doubt most would have ever noticed without it having been pointed out like that. I will admit they may have been a little broad when pushing the PC-brush for that clean up, but thinking about it objectively, it's probably weirder that they'd intentionally ignore some of it while censoring other bits, so it makes sense in that way. As far as the remastering aside from the censorship, they did an excellent job. I actually played the original episodes not long ago, and can attest at how much better these look and run, especially this first season, compared to the originals. I highly recommend this.
