Sam & Max Hit the Road

Sam & Max hit the road contrary to it's title does not involve Sam and or Max hitting a slab of concrete for 4-6 hours, rather Sam and his Lagomorph pal Max must search for a big hairy bigfoot and his long giraffe necked girlfriend. It's full of creative and funny dialogue, and a bunch of puzzles that make my pea brain snap. Basically what i'm saying is buy this game with money and if you don't have money find some. It's worth every cent.

I am pretty sure this review will be lost among pages and pages or words, but anyway, my important opinion: Sam&Max was developed in a kind of rush after Day of the Tentacle (and it shows - some characters are recycled from that game, a habit that would be followed up in the Telltale series) but it shows a professionalism from Lucasarts at that era that is almost scary. The plot is a satire of USA tourist traps (I was surprised when I learnt that all the places of the game either exist or exist in a very similar manner), the design is open ended as only Lucasarts really knew how to do it, and the production values are pretty. It may not have the same character as their other adventures, mostly because they get humour and characters from a franchise whose humour was different from a DOTT or Monkey Island, but this turns out into a laidback sunny "road movie" adventure that never feels totally unfair in its enigmas and puzzles. Ok, the interface is not the best (I get tired of right clicking over and over) but the digs at the awesomely ugly and laughable museums are golden. And most of all, I love the kind of Marx brothers chaos nature of it all. No, most of all: it planted the seed for the Telltale adventures.

This is a literal great old game that I've really enjoyed so far! The animation style, story, ambience, and humor are fantastic! I have no nostalgia factor either, and was just wanting a great classic point and click adventure/detective game. And I found it in this one!

I remember playing this game for he first time as a gift and found it side split splittingly funny, years later when I forgot about it, it surfaced again included wth an original Secret of Monkey Island cd rom I bought on eBay, since then I'd been playing it occasionally on SCUMMVM as the years passed and computers got less and less friendly to old games. I love this game, it's quirky, silly, brutal comedy and damned brilliant in all the ways of the classics, now all it needs is to be remade like Grim Fandango and Day Of The Tentacle! Oh and so should Monkey Island 3 (giggle)

So. Got this game on floppies. Got the game when floppy full talkie came out. Got the CD ROM version (Twice... because my "(ex)friend" "Borrowed" a copy). Bought on GOG. Yep. I have bought this game 5 times now. Ok. Little background on me. I am a Police Officer. Use quotes of this game so many times my co workers hate me. (Specially the one about driving at the start intro) Anyhow. Game review hu. Yep. Ok. Its good. Starts off easy enough then BLAM! Bigfoots and country singing! Spoilers? hu? if you haven't played this game by now you are either an idiot or an idiot. Go buy it. It costs less than a big mac meal. Leaves you satisfied for much longer. Jokes, graphics and sound still better than the telltale series. Sure its not 3D but its RETRO. Nothing bad. And under $10AU...can't ask for more (remember new games cost like $90.....and this one will last for that long and more)
