Better than the third, but not the 2nd

The narrative of the third was weird, with little interaction between the saints and the bosses, this game fixes that, bringing back the story to a more personal space, it also improves on the gameplay, at least for the most part, the supoerpowers render vehicles useless unless you have to use them for missions, same goes for the guns , of which there's a wide variety, now customizable too. activities now have rankings from bronze to gold, and only bronze is required for map completion, but the challenge is there for the completionists. Unfortunately they really didn't improve much on the wardrobe department, 95% of the clothes are recycled from the third, I don't mind they carrying over all those assets, but it should be 60% of the wardrobe at most, upper and lower body are still packaged instead of allowing the more complex customization of SR2, and clothes from suits are not available to buy separately. hell, I even saw random NPC with better clthing than the MC, with glow in the dark high heels, The map is the same from the third game too, and again, I don't mind them using old assets, but apart frm the few alien structures scattered around there's not much change. I also have to say, I still hate the controls for vehicles, whoever thought of accelerating with R2 is a sociopath that should be fired and blacklisted from making games ever again, at least if they let us remap the controls, but nope, still shitty as in the third. Still worth playing for the solid gameplay and the whimsical story, even tho this entrie thing feels more like a DLC for the third game. It usually goes on sale for a couple of bucks, so really, there's no reason for not trying it out

Broken and Epic Services Garbage

I mean don't get me wrong other games do have EOS but at least they don't shove it right in your face on first setup, clearly GOG stance is NO to DRM but they seem fine with Telemetry / Spyware. . . And this really makes me think on where do I stand, it's still good that DRM is gone but still. . . Oh right and the game is just broken in comparison to the legacy, soon as i got ingame was impossible to aim with that new drunk camera it has now, it's just a new feature right? Hopefully i get a refund cause i wont support this. Edit: Just wanna add that this could be at least worked around by simply giving us the legacy version alongside the re-elected cause changing to the legacy through the beta option didn't work for me at all. Edit 2: At this point being on sale i'll just bite the bullet on this one, have to try downgrade it again see if works this time at least.

What is wrong with me?

I used to dodge Saints Row games because I was too heavily playing GTA but... my word I totally ripped myself off! I bought them on a whim recently from GOG and I have had the most fun in months playing! I wish I could go back and kick younger me in the butt for discounting such a great title and series. Yes, it's outlandish but oh, I love every moment of it. Saints Row is basically the experience of a modded to insanity version of GTA where you have a guy driving a piano down the street, beating someone down with dubstep and oh, just buy it already! You won't regret it! Get them all and start at the beginning.

Jumbled mess

For the first few hours feels fun and the chaos you can unleash is gratifying. After the initial high though, the game falls really flat because the controls are very unprecise and the frustration starts to build up. Most of the story missions are reliant on tight timing and precise movements. The movement speed you unlock with skill points fairly early on exacerbates the spongy control feel even more. Graphics, sound and the general feel of the sandbox chaos are still great, it's just that the whole package feels bad after a few hours. The feel of it reminds me of Just Cause 2, just that this hasn't crashed once (for JC2's crash every 15 minutes).

A great sandbox parody game

Bottomline, Saints Row 4 is a game stacked high with parody and humourous references and remarks. Considering that it takes about 30 - 40 hours to quickly go through the task content, that is a boatload of stuff enjoy. That is, if you get the references. Matrix, Transformers The Movie (1986) and a ton of video game references including EVERY SINGLE past Saints Row title. You even have new dialogue for Julius Little. Some parts lifted straight from the past titles, including the scene with Veteran Child holding Shaundi as a hostage. This time they wisely give you a stun gun to replace the original SR2 scene of THROWING GRENADES AT THE TWO PEOPLE to 'distract' them. The game has a lot of replicating content such as multiple driving sing-a-longs to mirror that one in the beginning of SR3. Gameplay-wise, there is not much driving in the game as you can now glide faster than the max speed of a sports car. The flipside is that to get those cool abilities, you need to collect a lot of collectibles to unlock them. Thus, there are two bad parts in the game: the mandatory collectibles (you need about 1000 of them for full unlocks) and Genki Holiday Special activity. The game reuses the SR3 map and characters. It is considerably more resource intensive than SR3 when played on the street level, though runs okay when gliding high above everything. I hijacked a car only a couple of times during the whole game. The radio music is off by default and instead there is soft synth background music. I noticed more scenario-specific tunes here than in SR3. Most side missions revolve around activities, so here activities are practically the side missions. The main story is quite short and the bulk of the tasks is activities. There is no repeat activities from SR3 besides Fraud, so they are pretty fresh. The two DLC missions are extensive, 3+6 missions. The longer Enter the Dominatrix is particularly good. E.g. one of the objectives involve caging furries at a club.
