Uncover the mysteries of Sveti Kotar

In this story-and-choice driven psychological horror detective game, you play as Benedek and Nikolay – two troubled godly men in search for their missing relative in an ancient God-devoted town called Sveti Kotar. Here, an unknown presence preys upon the weak and sways on devil worship and witchcraft. Evidence points to your missing relative being involved in the grisly murders and the occult, but what is the truth? Are you also to blame for what happened?

Will you put the pieces together and unravel the truth behind the town’s centuries-old horrid presence? Or is madness going to be your fate?

Why Saint Kotar will terrify you:

  • Solve the mystery behind your relative's involvement with the town's bizarre and morbid rituals
  • Switch between two realities to get to the bottom of the town’s horrifying secrets
  • Take caution as your choices will affect both story and gameplay
  • Discover hidden locations and complete side tasks to uncover the whole story

Had me glued to the screend throughout!

I would like to begin this review by saying that Black Mirror, The Dig, Broken Sword & Gabriel Knight are in the top 10 Point & Click games list of my personal preference. All 4 games have been around during the golden days of the Point & Click era and most of the genre lovers will agree with me that they are very highly regarded and respected. There is an obvious pattern in my selection. I love a well-crafted serious mystery game with a twist of darkness and sometimes even a drop of supernatural. The eerie atmosphere of both Black Mirror & Gabriel Knight haunted me for weeks after completion. That means they did a thoroughly good job of getting under my skin and succumb me into their immersive atmosphere and story line. For me that is the difference between a good game and a genre defining game. Saint Kotar was on my radar for quite sometime now, since it was the only tittle of recent years that ticked those boxes in my books. Sure, I enjoyed the Blackwell Series or Lamplight City but if I must be honest, they felt nothing like my personal favorite titles. Saint Kotar was promising to give me the dosage I craved for. And it delivered almost perfectly on that promise! The guys at Red Martyr did a brilliant job at a time where the genre is not getting many games that are faithful to the “purebred” PNC games that we all love. And I am sure the tried to do exactly that. Stay true to the “cause” while stamping their own authority and signature in a “new age” PNC game.

Badly written story

I think this was one of the worst adventure games I´ve ever played. The storyline is confusing and as soon as the storywriters didn´t know how to solve a situation a kind of deus ex machina appears to help and solve the situation. I don´t want to spoil too much but the guy in the asylum (or was it a prison?) who helps Benedek but doesn´t want to flee himself makes the author´s helplessness clearer than any of the other ridiciculous situations in the game. My recommendation: if you are looking for an adventure that tells an interesting story then try something different. If you want a story without too much logic behaviour of the protagonists and a lot of childish gore and splatter then Saint Kotar is your game. At least there is a decent german translation and the background graphics are not too bad so one star is well deserved.

Confusing and fascinating

Despite all the shortcomings this story-heavy game may undeniably have, I can't deny its appeal and its thick, sad atmosphere. Be prepare for some really strong language on several occasions.

A Good Game for the Halloween Season

I've played this over on Steam, and it's a good (if somewhat mixed), spooky time in rural Croatia. If you've seen reviews mentioning a lackluster ending, that has been fixed with the Void Update. It's much better than it once was back then. To be honest, my main gripe with the game is how unlikable the two main characters can be at times. It also deals with triggering subject matter like it's nothing (e.g. suicide, religious discrimination, etc). That said, the atmosphere, lore, and horror presented here is top notch. It's essentially a love letter to games like Black Mirror and its like. This is hearty recommend for me over the Halloween Season, or whenever you'd like a creepy trip to the Balkans.
