I love the concept of this game. I like that my choices really matter to the story (I tried a few different approaches in the first chapter to test this out), and to my character. Great writing so far. I am looking forward to the rest!
This is a one-of-a-kind game. It's a hero's journey storyline with combat and choice and consequence, but all the magic is in the framing. The game heavily relies on your character's psychological traits, relationships, and feelings to impact both how you interact with the world and how people react to you. And given the seriousness of the events and the fear, adventure, nobility, and danger you experience, this adds a lot of immersion as well as providing a very innovative game experience.
My only critique is that some of the characters feel a little ham-fisted. You can predict who is evil, cowardly, noble and who is not by appearance alone a good portion of the time and that felt like a big letdown. A game which shows the flexibility and variety of the human internal character should not rely on visual stereotypes.
Overall, I love the game, can't wait for the final version, and I hope the developers have lots of success and make more games like this one.
Wow, that´s the essence of RPG. Deep, gripping, tense gameplay. I did not expect this happenig to me, that I would ever play a turn based RPG, but Sacred Fire got me... The instant I started to play I was all in and my heart beating throat high... natural interface, awsome way of story telling, nice graphics, good music. In lack for other words: This is a gem! Thank you so much and keep up the good work (in development) :-)
Sacred Fire is NOT a hack and slash grind-fest *thank you*, but a wonderful adventure where choices really do matter both short and long term. There are intrigues great and small that makes this a re-playable gem.
If you try to be the stalwart hero, you'll miss the playful interactions. Even being completely inept has a unique set of story-line and dialog choices. So don't be afraid to play "outside" your usual PC.
The psychological builds are greatly varied and from what I've played not all fully implemented, so I'm looking forward to see how they are blended into the final decision trees.
Congratulations on your wonderful undertaking and I look forward to seeing the completed tale.
This game is just excellent. It takes a form of seriously in depth Choose Your Own Adventure, with all sorts of min/maxing background checks going on.
If you've played any Hosted or Choice Of games before - it's like those but amped all the way up to 11 with a staggering array of stats that affect you and the people you interact with (but spectacularly simple to manage and understand) and it also comes with audio / music and key dialogue voiced.
It's hard to explain in action through text, you really need to see it play out and then watch it play out in a different way again (definitely recommend checking out some videos if you're on the fence). Your motivations, your mental state, your emotions will affect you in suprising ways - but you'll always have time to decide and think things through. Put a pot of tea or coffee on for this one.
The story is wonderful, the characters deep and complex. This is the kind of unique gaming experience that will stick with you for a long time.
