I played through this with my brother in co-op on the Xbox 360 version a long time ago and had a blast. It's a bit slow paced, it's clunky, the open world is far too damn big for its own good.
So why did I love it so much? The game oozes charm and cheese everywhere from every orifice, the purposefully bad voice acting, the super memorable and quotable dialogue, a secret unlockable power metal concert, the devs clearly had a lot of fun making this. Also you can play as ancient egyptian-esque cyborg dogs with megaman arm cannons and jetpacks, which is just insanely ridiculous.
Also the sense of progression is really nice in this game, going from having only a basic attack and being slow and barely able to fight a small group of pirates to being a speed demon with several crowd clearing attacks and a mount to explore the world on is a good feeling.
There are a few ARPG's attempting to have an open world, but they all end up being pretty linear. This, however, has me wondering around finding my own quests and paths, almost like I was playing Skyrim.
It also has a number of innovations that you don't even see in modern ARPGs, like mounted combat, area auto-loot, and fully customizable combination skills.
The one downside, is that that the UI isn't always self explanatory and there aren't a lot of guides for this old of a game so you may need to tinker with it a bit before everything really starts to click.
Sacred 2 is one of the few games I loved yet never bought again digitally. I have no reason for this, I just shared it as an interesting note.
At its very core Sacred 2 is an action RPG, nothing less and nothing more. Everything happens in real time, there are abilities that requires aiming or predicting, and moving makes ranged attacks miss, and this is true for both you and for the NPCs. The basic gameplay is the same as in Sacred 1, Diablo 2, or the Torchlight titles: left mouse button for attacking, right is for activating the selected skill. The drops and item qialities are random, shops sells random things. While Torchlight makes the NPCs match your level when you enter a region they will not level up if you do so. What made Sacred 1 unique is presented here: the level of the NPCs is dynamic and always follow you with handicap depending on the selected difficulty. There are places where the NPCs are static and they remain killed when you kill them, but they respawn randomly on 99% of the map. To make it simple, you will not have boring times whie traveling.
There is no skill tree, you're free to level any ability in any order. Upon creating the character you can even decide to have shared cooldown for faster single-aspect abilitiesl recharge, or separate cooldown to make the different aspect abilities usable simultaneously but with higher cooldown. The passive skills are about effectiveness and required to max out the abilities' true potential by adding additional effects to it.
There are also mounts that buff your character but always comes with punishments. To overcome this there are special mounts that instead buff your class' speciality at the cost of the normal mounts' combat bonuses.
As you see, Sacred 2 is the perfect RPG for a non-hardcore RPG player like me, while providing challenge even for the experienced players. And if you're not into any of these, the game let you play like in the GTA titles: doing completelly random things without reasons.
(Sorry for my bad english)
They are about 5 months I bought this game, and I can say, without doubt, that I think it's a masterpiece.
The 6 characters you can choose from are all very different, interesting and fascinating. Each of them can be customized in many ways, thanks to a perfect system of skill. All this allows you to create many different characters.
The game map is huge, full of beautiful places to see and explore in depth. Around the world, there are over 500 quests, and completing them you get EXP, gold and various objects.
In the world, there is a huge amount of enemies to face, and the race of the enemy depends on the region of Ancaria you explore.
Furthermore, to make it more exciting, in the game you can find a wide range of special items, known as "unique" and "set", which when worn, strengthen your character in a better way compared to normal objects.
As for the graphics, it is beautiful and colorful, with graphics very nice ... however, the graphics engine is heavy, poorly optimized, and this causes problems of frame rate, if you set the graphics to the maximum levels. (This has happened to me, it could not happen to other computers)
