Classic Arpg - aged better than expected

Loved it back then and it aged well visually and gameplay wise. Neglectable story? check Interesting classes which play different? check Loot? check Immersive World? check, well it is huge. Hordes of Enemies? Yes, but feel sparse due to huge world. Mounts? check Lightsabers? check Fast Travel? check Caveat: The Community Patch is rather mandatory to iron out many bugs left in game due to the developer going bancrupt back in the day. Adding the EE-Mod advanced the experience further and allows for denser enemy, which fills the void nicely in this huge world.

A real gem for hacking at your time

This hack'n'slash MMO is really enjoyable on your own. You set out for an adventure across Ancaria slashing and hacking away at the enemy. The gameplay is varied and the six playable characters multiply the possibilities of gameplay and character building. Now you will not play the game for its story. It is not designed to engross you or embark you on a thrilling quest to uncover the secrets of your past or any other passionate undertaking but rather it will take you far and wide across the world for varied tasks that will probably not give you a slight interest. The game is aimed at gameplay and gameplay alone. Once you've understood that, and if you enjoy MMO types of games with countless quests, gear items and skills, the game is for you. The graphics are gorgeous even for 2019. And the game is not demanding system-wise. On low settings it will even run on the lower-end computers. (I boast an intel hd graphic card). As for OS compatibility so far I have not encountered any mishaps on Windows 10. If you do, running the game as administrator and setting compatibility mode with windows XP should certainly do the trick. This game is not the greatest game you will have ever played but it truly shines in GOG's library and is a trove of thrilling gameplay and relaxing wandering.

an evergreen classic

Sacred and Sacred 2 are by far the mother of single player rpg for me, i started with sacred and really dove into sacred 2 willingly and with joy. ascaron did a very good job keeping up the feeling of ancarias problems and myths (lets just act as if sacred 3 never happened). it is a shame we dont get this kind of generic and humorous anymore, cause that is another point for that game, the humor. be it engraved tombstones or quests like twitty tister its an overall classic that i now play for nearly 13 years all over again, never getting bored of it.

Hack-n-Slash Eye Candy

I purchased this during the most recent GOG sale. I think it was $4 or so. This review is based on the initial 5 to 10 hours of gameplay. For that price, I get a hack-n-slash game with great graphics that is not buggy (so far). There is little story to this game - there are a lot of quests, I am unsure as to the priority of them during the game. It is not clear in any way. It has a very large world that one can explore for a long time with many quests and side quests to help you gain experience and loot. The NPC characters so far are pretty bland, which contributes to the lack of a story. I would probably compare this a bit to Titan Quest, but Titan Quest is much more linear and while its story is somewhat empty, one can at least follow the storyline. In comparison, I have absolutely no idea what the story of Sacred 2 is about. Overall, for the price I paid, I think it is a good game.

It's Like Going Solo in an MMO

This game is like playing an MMO during off hours when no one else is online. Sacred 2 has a large and lovely world with lots of fed-ex quests but with little or no cohesive storyline. You'll feel like an MMO player playing solo. You won't experience any of the human interactions that make an MMO either interesting or infuriating which may be perfect for people who find the interactions infuriating. But I need a cause, a story, and story driven goals. Most of all, I need to feel as though I've improved when I level. Unfortunately, the Sacred 2 designers made a huge mistake when they chose to have enemies scale to your level. This feature might seem like a good idea since it keeps any area of the map dangerous for the duration. But for many folks, it's a game killer. This feature diminishes one of the most satisfying experiences in any character-leveling game: the feeling of defeating an enemy that kicked your butt in prior encounters. For example, in Gothic, I was actually raising both fists in the air when I at last killed a shadow beast. In S2, it's not only annoying to have all those little kobolds that you fought off at level x keep re-spawning but then you discover that after you've worked so hard to earn level x+3 all those same kobolds are also level x+3. It significantly deflates the leveling process. I recommend S2 to people who like to solo in MMOs, who like aRPG-style combat (although many have said S2 doesn't do this all that well), low-stress quests, and exploring a lovely open world. There is nothing wrong with wanting this from a game. But if you like a colorful story, character driven goals, richly plotted quests and a strong need for accomplishment I'd would not recommend you buy this game. Since I'm in the latter camp, I can only rate this game with 2 stars.
