Runaway: A Road Adventure

To be honest I only purchased this game because of the price and it happened that it was better than I thought. Great plot and story, gives a very Broken Sword vibe. Of course the game has its flaws, the voice acting isn't the greatest, some puzzles requires very specific actions in order to execute them, also may offend some people with some specific dated humor. Despite that, I found the game still holds up, graphics still look great for an almost 20 year old game, it was disappointing not finding the game in Spanish though which is weird as this game was developed by Spanish people.

This game is primarily aimed at those who enjoyed the classic point-and-click adventure titles of the past. While bringing nothing new to the genre it does a good job to service the niche market. As the title suggests the story is the standard road adventure, boy meets girl, boy helps girl meeting unique characters along the way, Some characters are more memorable then others with voice acting good overall. The story and dialogue does touch on some adult themes more then most American made adventures I've played, nothing too serious but it doesn't censor itself to the player. While there is a sequel the ending closes the story nicely . One of the unique features of this game is the graphics which are 3D rendered to look drawn and more cartoonist. This technique does a good job at capturing shadows and lighting allowing the cut scenes to be visual appealing. Puzzles are standard inventory, mixing objects and dialogue based with dreaded pixel hunting and backtracking included. You always have a sense of what to do if not necessarily how to do it which may lead to trial and error. If your a fan of the genre and frustrated with the lack of quality adventure games in the last few years then this game is worth a look. Just keep expectations reasonable and the game is enjoyable.

These older original point and click games are so good! Runaway is up there with Broken Sword. Plenty of challenging puzzles to figure out. Immersive story and enjoyable characters to meet along the adventure. A must buy! If you have trouble opening this game after installing and have a message like I did saying “screen adapter not set up” you’ll have to go into the game folder accessible via the Gog game manager and find the videocardsetup.exe icon, right click and run as administrator which allows you to choose your graphics card to run the game.

Yesterday a walked through B.B.'s great adventure, again. I got this game around 2003, it was one of my first adventure. I've seen a review in a gamer magazine with some pics. First I noticed it's cartoonish style , that really caught my attention. So I bought it, and installed the 3 CDs at once. Right from the beginning I really enjoyed the game, the hand drawn pictures, characters, Gina's body too. Story to me wasn't mind a blowing thing, but I must admit they made a really smart ending. Dark side is the somewhat hard gameplay. You know, searching the same box tenfold, or the small microscopic objects left unnoticed. Keepin all in mind this is almost a perfect adventure, memorable with great soundtrack. Don't miss the sequels too!

Everyone thought adventures were dead, but then a few small companies tried to revive id, Pendulo Studios released this pear. The storytelling of Runaway is great, the intro already caught me. There are some frustrating puzzles of course, like you find them in every adventure, slightly illogical (when you are in the desert, check the bus door :s). Also Brian sometimes won't take all that is in a bag - if you only click it one time. Sometimes you have to click the bag several times to get all. But the game still is one of the best adventures released around that time, unlike the infamous successorDream of the Turtle, which is so very boring.
