RoboCop: Rogue City is a pitch-perfect throwback to the action movies of the ‘80s. It’s over-the-top violence with charm, largely well put together but rough on the edges. Most importantly, it's a fun way to spend time in a beloved fictional universe that doesn’t overstay its welcome. Blasting at goons as an unstoppable walking machine remains as extremely entertaining as it seemed on the big screen, thanks in part to an impressive commitment to capturing the look and feel of the original film. Mixing in elements like routine police work and side quests does a great job changing the pace, too. Even if it’s not the best example of visual fidelity, and prone to some bugs along the way, that love of RoboCop shines through. This is a solid B movie of a video game, which is exactly what the source material demands.

RoboCop: Rogue City is a methodical shooter that makes you feel like Old Detroit's greatest crime fighter, but it errs when its devotion to authenticity wanes.

Even if Rogue City had started to rust a little towards the end of its lengthy campaign, its surprisingly in-depth shooting and roleplaying mechanics, love of the source material, and keen understanding of what makes RoboCop so great in the first place has made it one of the biggest surprises of 2023 for me. In a year full of absolute bangers, make sure you spend some time in Detroit.

Feel like Robocop, glitches and all?

So I have been wanting to get this game for a long time and when I saw it was coming to GOG I was pretty excited cause I wanted to have it here instead of on steam. Everything played pretty well, I did have a few crashes for some reason like "to many things on screen" or something error came up I don't remember. But otherwise it played pretty well. I beat the game 3 times (using new game plus for 2 of them) and trying to unlock all the different gun circuit boards to find the best one I like. Unfortunately a problem with gog galaxy with it's cloud sync was it was taking up to much space. The problem in game is there is no option to delete old saves for some reason? Why in this day and age can't you delete saves within the game? So I wanted to remove very old saves so the gog galaxy sync issue wouldn't be an issue anymore. So I went into the game files and deleted a bunch of the old saves. I stupidly didn't just move them temp. to a different spot first. After that I loaded in the last level of the game again because new game plus wasn't working right for some reason. It sent me to a glitched out final level of the game where you could see through certain assets etc. I managed to beat the final enemy and end credits roll. I then try new game plus figuring now it should start from the beginning no problem.. instead it loads back up the final level again. WTF? I realized it wont work right anymore cause I deleted a bunch of the old files (but I still had like a dozen or so saves saved. No matter what I cannot use new game plus anymore. This means I have to replay the whole game without the new game plus. I will just have to wait till months/years later to replay it so it's not fresh in my mind. Just stinks it ended on a sour note. I am hoping for a sequel to the game though cause it would be a lot of fun to see and do more things for the game. This game really does make you feel like robocop, it was a lot of fun to play through.

Lacks Polish, Great Power-Fantasy FPS

RoboCop Rogue City lacks polish as in it's a little rough around the edges. It does indeed have localization in Poland's native language. Anyways, I enjoyed this game a lot. It has a satisfying gameplay loop. It took me around 16.5 hours to finish. So this is definitely a complete package. Sidenote: this is a very demanding game on your hardware, but thank god for DLSS/FSR because it works wonders. When I said it lacks polish, what I mean is Rogue City was definitely made on a less than ideal budget. This isn't really a bad thing, and I'm actually impressed at how resourceful the devs are. Having said that, reloading animations, character animations and some of the voices are definitely lacking in quality. The antagonist and some of the characters weren't too interesting either. I really only found RoboCop, his cop partner Lewis, and maybe the therapist and news reporter to be compelling and interesting individuals. The main gameplay loop, however, is where the game shines. The combat is simple, but super engaging and fun throughout the entire game. The weapon variety is actually really lacking, but the signature RoboCop pistol never gets old to use (plus you can upgrade and customize it). The enemy variety is decent. There's typical goons and heavily armored human mercs and robots with an array of guns. The player's tactics won't change much. You usually just absorb most damage, juggle healing items and kill enemies quickly before you run out of health. RoboCop is a juggernaut and you feel like an indestructible tank. The campaign always has a select number of side objectives to complete and were fun distractions while trying to arrest the main villain. Rogue City isn't an open world game, so the side objectives weren't too numerous and never got boring or felt like a chore. RoboCop Rogue City isn't a masterpiece or anything extraordinary. But FPS fans and particularly those who loved the RoboCop movies will have a lot of fun here.

Fun but buggy

Game is fun, feels like Robocop, but it crashes a lot for me - often on first launch - and randomly getting stuttery/jittery. Definitely needs some patching.

As good As the Terminator Game!

It brings back the vibe of the original two robocop movies perfectly. I felt like I was back in the late Eighties/early Nineties again. Which is greeat for the setting. I only noticed a few anachronisms but nothing important. Gameplay is crisp, and fitting. You are a walking tank and you feel like one. The gunplay with robocop's Auto-9 is perfect. The secondary guns are a little weak, and there are a few situations where I wsh you could kick back grenades or have the super gun hand from robocop 3, but that would not fit the timeline. Overall worth it for the price. Buy it, especially if you love Robocop movies 1&2.

Nostalgia in Full Bloom

This game doesnt just capture the look of the dystopian grounded grimy cyber punk captilistic hellscape that is the Detroit the rotting in the 80's but it nails the feel of that world in all its scan lined gory glory.
