RoboCop: Rogue City is a pitch-perfect throwback to the action movies of the ‘80s. It’s over-the-top violence with charm, largely well put together but rough on the edges. Most importantly, it's a fun way to spend time in a beloved fictional universe that doesn’t overstay its welcome. Blasting at goons as an unstoppable walking machine remains as extremely entertaining as it seemed on the big screen, thanks in part to an impressive commitment to capturing the look and feel of the original film. Mixing in elements like routine police work and side quests does a great job changing the pace, too. Even if it’s not the best example of visual fidelity, and prone to some bugs along the way, that love of RoboCop shines through. This is a solid B movie of a video game, which is exactly what the source material demands.

RoboCop: Rogue City is a methodical shooter that makes you feel like Old Detroit's greatest crime fighter, but it errs when its devotion to authenticity wanes.

Even if Rogue City had started to rust a little towards the end of its lengthy campaign, its surprisingly in-depth shooting and roleplaying mechanics, love of the source material, and keen understanding of what makes RoboCop so great in the first place has made it one of the biggest surprises of 2023 for me. In a year full of absolute bangers, make sure you spend some time in Detroit.

A MUST PLAY FOR 'ROBOCOP' FANS

The Shooting is Great once you optimized your game to run smoothly. And after playing it over 5 hours, I noticed its authenticity as Robocop. Your a moving Tank taking down criminals with armor and firepower. Your going to get hit and shot at, but whats awesome about it, is its EXACTLY like the Movie from 1987. You can maneuver out of harm behind walls and obstacles, come out with Robocop Vision and Retaliate with head bursting shots from the Auto 9 taking down criminals. I've never felt this much like Robocop ever... Also, the story, though not perfect, but I can tell the developers really put their effort and heart into, especially being Alex Murphy as the part man part machine. I think they did really well with this portrayal, never have I ever played a Robocop game that makes me feel empathetic for the characters NPC's in the game. At First I was quite skeptical since I felt the Robocop's Gun, AUTO 9 didn't have the correct sound as the movie. However, I was proven wrong. For those of you who felt the same as me, there are MODS now that you can find on NexusMod to do this. As well as other sound modifications to make the game more authentic such as the Bursting Gun-flare from the Auto 9 Gun, and the sound. Also Robocops heavy base foot-steps and the servo sounds of his movements. You can all find it on the NexusMod. Be sure to do that to make the Game Better! Also there has been some issues with lagging on the video and gameplays. I recommend people to look it up on the settings that they can try to optimize the game. It'll take some tweeking around to get it working to the best there is. However still, I took one star away because its still not perfect. Even with the graphics tweeking, the game still has a bit of lagging at times. The videos are also not 100% smooth all the way. But I must say that I am impressed by TEYON the effort they tried to put into with this game. I do hope that they could have some fixes in the future if possible. Overall, its a Good Game that must be played if your a Robocop fan.

Robo is back

if you're a fan of RoboCop movies, This game will be natural progression. Gameplay, combat, graphic is really good. Level design too, old Detroit feels alive. A charming and beautiful throwback to the '80s.

Major disservice to a legend

Positives - Policing in hub areas in between more focused, linear missions. A lot of character is provided to the world by small, organic actions. - Mission evaluation and the PCB board upgrade system seamlessly blend in universe development with gaming progress. - Gun feedback is properly visceral. This applies to both the main pistol and various other guns that can be taken from goons in missions. Neutral - Music is serviceable. Negatives - Unreal Engine 5. It absolutely breaks the back of the experience almost immediately. The visual experience suffers from ghosting, rubber looking people, hair halos, shimmering and absolutely atrocious performance. At one point I just hugged a blank wall to prove this point. This action taxed my 7800XT at 80% to reach 60 fps. This is at an amazing resolution of 1920x1080. - The script feels like a first revision. At best. There are multiple sequence braking problems: a scene provides some piece of information and characters act super surprised a couple scenes later when the same information is revealed by a different party. Moreover, the game revisits a lot of what was done in the movies while simultaneously happening in a post movie world. - The amount of memberberries is irritating. I want to play new adventures with an already established character. If I want to see the movies, I'll pop in one of the Blurays and enjoy the story passively. - The tone is all over the place. In one scene RoboCop is dealing with the trauma of being a cyborg, in another he has a competition with other police units in how many suspect each team kills. It feels like different people wrote different parts and no one compared notes at any point. - Voice acting is tolerable at best. Most characters feel like a paycheck, with the notable exception of the main character and the journalist. Some characters feel like they read their lines just once and that's what ended up in the final product. - Enemy AI is not great. Gun fights are properly challenging only at the start when the player has zero tools. I say that after completing the game on the highest difficult without putting a point in combat skills (look I am bit of a stubborn person). - In a heavily voiced story game lip syncing is mostly broken. Generally the mouths are flapping in a good enough pace. However, the fidelity is high enough that my brain kept flashing 'the lips are wrong, the lips are wrong, the lips are wrong' even though I tried to not focus on the mouth area of any speaker. - The game didn't know when to end. There was a fairly good mark when the good guys could ride off into the sunset, but the game insisted to continue to a pointless elongated ending. I was just barely sufficiently entertained to finish the game on stream. The entertainment came was mostly from pointing out what the game was doing wrong. I purchased the game for 10€ and I still feel ripped off. I strongly recommend against buying this game.
