7/10

RoboCop: Rogue City is a pitch-perfect throwback to the action movies of the ‘80s. It’s over-the-top violence with charm, largely well put together but rough on the edges. Most importantly, it's a fun way to spend time in a beloved fictional universe that doesn’t overstay its welcome. Blasting at goons as an unstoppable walking machine remains as extremely entertaining as it seemed on the big screen, thanks in part to an impressive commitment to capturing the look and feel of the original film. Mixing in elements like routine police work and side quests does a great job changing the pace, too. Even if it’s not the best example of visual fidelity, and prone to some bugs along the way, that love of RoboCop shines through. This is a solid B movie of a video game, which is exactly what the source material demands.

RoboCop: Rogue City is a methodical shooter that makes you feel like Old Detroit's greatest crime fighter, but it errs when its devotion to authenticity wanes.

3.5/5 stars

Even if Rogue City had started to rust a little towards the end of its lengthy campaign, its surprisingly in-depth shooting and roleplaying mechanics, love of the source material, and keen understanding of what makes RoboCop so great in the first place has made it one of the biggest surprises of 2023 for me. In a year full of absolute bangers, make sure you spend some time in Detroit.

Amazing AA game

Feels like classic slavjank, but modern. Also kind of feels like a tech demo visually. Story isv a perfectully cheesy romp through old-detroit.

More miss than hit

To simplify this game has 4 aspects that pop up to me. Exploring, combat/action, story/writing, and storytelling/presentation. Exploration could use a lot of polish. If you're just going from A to B it's fine but if you want to look around, complete side objectives, and find clues it's slow and gets tedious fast. Combat is the best part of the game. Not excellent or anything but out of the whole package it requires the least work. I enjoy it enough. The story is passing at the best of times. Obvious tired cliches, childish writing, soulles characters. But it would be a good enough frame for an action game if it wasn't for... The storytelling. 1/100. Holy s**t. The cutscenes are attrocious. This story should've been told diegetically similar to half-life. Putting the player on pause and focusing solely on the writing puts a spotlight on all of it's flaws, awful puppet rigging, terrible face models, etc. The whole game needs polish but fixing this one aspect alone would make the experience a hundred times better. Robocop fan? I guess you can buy this, the action's alright and you get to play as Robocop. Whoop. Fan of narrative games? Hard pass. Fan of action games? Softer pass, but still a pass.

Half FPS, half walking sim, good fun.

Graphics looks amazing in parts, but also has that Ue fuzz in others. Locked to 60FPS. Sound and level design so far really make me feel like I'm clomping my way through a run-down city, solving problems and occasionally busting heads. Lots of slowly exploring the city (all the better to show off the graphics with), collecting clues or finding evidence, with the story sequences carrying a fair bit of the action. Lots of tiny moral dilemmas and choices, little bits of flavour text, overheard conversations. It's not fully into immersive sim territory but it's definitely edging into the territory. Gunplay is fun and visceral, lots of explosions and over the top gore and being a metal tank of a man mowing down bad guys. Health is restored with a flask type system (OCP charges) which you can pick up, or at certain interactable points with the right points into the skill tree. Skill tree is where a fair amount of the replayability comes from as it's both combat and non-combat skills, which affect options in dialogue, what you can unlock or hack, how easily you spot hidden objects... and also let you slow down time, emit shockwaves, and of course dash. Specialising is usually better but it's flexible enough to let you play generalist. Controls are simple enough and mostly FPS standard, no jump but no fall damage either so lots of downward verticality in missions or climbing ladders to find stuff then walk off a roof. Mouse movement does seem very twitchy but sensitivity options are available to help. As far as the plot and writing goes, it's about drug dealing criminals gone terrorist and the Man Inside the Machine, with the side quests offering a fair bit of entertainment in the delivery or characters. It all feels like the sort of work Robocop would be doing, although I'm no hardcore follower of the franchise. Overall greatly enjoying, pulls me in to helping just one more citizen, and I enjoy clanking around delivering justice through overwhelming force too.

Terrible acting, terrible saving options

I am glad I only paid $10 bucks for this game. The score 78 is still way too high. The graphics are not good, the mouth movement and animations are terrible. Game play is boring after 1 hour of playing.

Wow, runs very bad

Wow, my System is over the recommended Specs for the highest Settings and the Game stutters in the Menu. I will refund it, never seen something as bad optimized.
