River City Ransom: Underground

River City Ransom Underground ticks all the boxes expected of a good beat'em up. Two players? Check. Controller support? Check. Wide range of moves and special attacks per character? Check. Variety of fighting styles among the characters? Check. Wide variety of enemies and environments? Check. Heaps of unlockable characters and unlockable moves per character? Check. Modest hardware requirements? Check. Windows, Mac, and Linux support? Check. Replay value out the wahzoo? Great big check!

Fun to play. Different fighting styles add to replay. Story is kinda meh. Pretty true to the original though.

As a RCR sequel, the game is pretty solid. New characters with returning classics, new areas with updated graphics and the ability to go back and see the old High School... As a game on its own its less stellar, but overall pretty good. Minor grinding for levels and cash, but the minimap system is quite poor, some quests are vague and one in particular is (as the game players go) notoriously difficult and recently updated (milk). Character playability is a strong curve, with some being easy to get into, and others having a highly difficult moveset / playstyle. Combo that with some needing to be found/ unlocked can make a completionist scared straight of finishing all the characters in the game. Its on sale now and was totally worth the $5 I paid, but at 'regular price' I would have likely regretted the purchase. Get it while its $5 and you will probably be more than happy with it.

Great classic resurrected on PC. It feels great and runs perfect highly recommended to any fans of brawlers.
