One of the best indie games ever!

Yes, one of the best, undoubtedly, it's so fun and hardcore so don't expect a walk in the park, it gets so intense when you have a lot of time in one level, there's a fair amount of content I've only beat it once with one character, so you can beat it with every character and unlock more stuff, honestly this game is too damn underrated just buy it and have fun!

"…and his music was electric"

Had to go back after all these years and give a 5 star rating to the OG. I love this game to bits and have played over 700 hours spread out over PS4, PSVita, Steam, and GOG. Still come back to it every now and then for a run or two. These days I spend a majority of my free time on Risk of Rain 2 with friends, it's one of my top games of all time. RoR2 is unfortunately stuck on Steam (and Epic Games lol) as far as PC goes, but hopefully this will change one day.

The Best of the Best

Risk of Rain is that game you should have stayed away from. Once you get a bit of power you NEED more just to see what happens. It's insane. It's beautiful. It's that person that you never quit get everything you want from them but you're always glad for what you did get from them.

Great with little quirks.

Love the game, especially when you get a ton of upgrades and everything starts to explode all over the place (and the game spawns bosses, like they were regular mobs to compensate :D ) There are some quirks though, like, lack of keyboard control in menus (while the games is played with keyboard) and menus are inconsistent (like sometimes the back button is in the upper right corner, and than it's down in the center). Also, of important note, you can't save. It's not only about permadeath (permadeath is fine), you just can't really start a game and close it to continue it later. So if you have 10 free minutes, well, you either die sooner or get disappointed, because you won't be able to continue it later. These quirks are why I couldn't decide on mark (more like 4.5/5). But considering it's price, it's a 5/5.
