Always liked the series and the first one is a successor to Gothic.

This is the perfect game for anyone who likes games like the gothic series from the same company, Piranha Bytes.

One of the best medieval FPS/RPG I've ever played, and I've been playing since 1990s. Realistic enough but not tedious, stringently not power-playable (a pack of wolves is a challenge even to a mid-high level player, for example), open-world but not to the point of actual frustration "what do I do now", etc.

I played this game in 2017. I wanted to give it a 4/5 because of the clunky combat, but considering the game came out in 2009, I'm giving it a 5/5. Pros: - Immersive and dense open world. - Game design is top notch. each area feels unique with it's own atmosphere and music. - Enjoyable main quest/side quests. (Actually like the side quests more). - Leveling and skill trees offer many ways to play the game. - Infinite, categorized inventory, - Smithing, Alchemy, and Scroll making is quite good it surprised me. - Solid performance (4k60fps an a GTX 1070/6700K/Win10). Cons: - Combat. - Voice acting gets repetitive over time (English). Piranha Bytes are one the best at making hardcore PC RPGs. I highly recommend this game, especially with how cheap you can get it right now. A game that make you memorize the whole map like it's your neighborhood..

Great game, but the combat is possibly even worse than in Gothic. Even in 1v1 the lockon will often loose its target and you will suddenly turn the wrong direction. If there is more than one enemy its a total crapshoot with the lockon switching at random between targets. Don't expect combat to be fun until after you have become overpowered. And remember you can save while in combat, no shame savescumming in this game.
