Rise of the Triad (2013)

I played and enjoyed the original ROTT, and I still play Doom regularly. I didn't enjoy this game at all. Frustrating, stupid level design that gives you no idea how to proceed, melee attacks that mysteriously teleport you, no way to tell whether a door is one you can open or not, or whether it's going to open later, or what, trial-and-error based foreknowledge of traps and enemy placement necssery coupled with no quicksave. It's stupidly, unfairly hard for no payoff. The voice acting sucks; this seems to be deliberate, as a joke, but in some places it's just annoying rather than funny. Graphics lag, and bizarrely unresponsive controls just round out this turd. Try platforming and dodging traps with unresponsive controls. Fun fun fun. To be fair, it IS worth about $15, but only just.

A terrible FPS game with minimal weapons balance that just used the name of the original RotT to sell copies. Nostalgia got the better of me and I bought this on release... Probably one of my worst game purchases ever. The most bland game I have ever played, it's like eating overcooked pasta with no salt, no butter and no sauce. I hate this game with a passion for making me hope it would be good and being the lowest effort crap I've ever seen. It was so bad it made me reminisce about playing Blood 2 again. Hell, it's such a bad game I'm gonna go buy Blood 2 right now, I'm just glad I saw this on gog and had the opportunity to give it another 1 star review. Why oh why didn't I get a refund on this piece of crap the moment I saw how bad it is.... This game is so bad it makes Duke Nukem Forever play like a masterpiece in comparisson. If you were sent to hell and were given a choice between playing this or DNF multiplayer, DNF would actually seem like a freaking bargain. I can't say enough bad things about this game, it's just a turgid piece of shit running on the coat tails of not only a way better predecessor but those of a better era in gaming as well. Just avoid

As loading screen mentioned, the sequel to Wolf3D should've been name as Wolfenstein Part 2 Rise of the Triad, so we got this instead as well a remake to original RotT. The game suffers from performance issues here in there from 90+ fps tp 30+fps scenes. The music itself is not bad, but nothing really amazing. The levels are not open, they feel claustraphobic. The fast paced gameplay from old classic Quake/Wolf/Doom titles is here though.

IF I should prefer I would actually go for the new one as a more serious game, old classic is a amusement park ride.

I love this game, just like I love the original. The guns are all satisfying, the enemies are fun, the music is awesome, and the bosses actually require strategy. However, it can be frustratingly hard at time, more-so than the original. There are a ton of insta-death platforming parts, enemies that can take off half your health in one hit, and if you die at the start of a level, you lose all your weapons. This wouldn't be such a big problem, but there is no quick-save, just stretched out check points. Still, fans of old school shooters like Doom, Wolfenstein, and Rise of the Triad: Dark War need to have this in their collection.
