Immerse yourself into the Giza Sphinx and Great Pyramid — one of the last seven wonders of the ancient world — and solve a Riddle of megalithic proportions.

Riddle of the Sphinx™ The Awakening is truly an epic ancient Egyptian adventure featuring exploration in and around highly accurate 3D replicas of the Giza Sphinx and Great Pyramid of Cheops (aka, Khufu). While you start out at the Sphinx and can examine the inside of the Great Pyramid as it exists today, this is only the beginning of a long journey that reveals and solves many real-life archaeological mysteries.

You will be the one to make these exciting finds, and ultimately solve the Riddle of the Sphinx™! But you must be careful. Your choices matter. The ancient Egyptians went to great lengths to keep others from finding the secrets and solving the Riddle.

A wonderful remaster for the genre

At long last a new entry into this fantastic genre. It's actually a remake, though most will have missed it when it first came out, and even if you haven't it is well worth a look as it has been remastered exellently. The graphics are crisp, the music is well suited, and all the great puzzles are still in tact, awaiting your prying mind. Absolutely!!! If you can't handle not having a little icon telling you where to go... yea... beat it... If you can't take notes for yourself - beat it. If your hand needs to be held walking down the street.. beat it. The AAA money grabs awaits you. If you want to try to unlock the secrets of an ancient world, and are willing to put some real time and effort to achieve it - welcome my friend.

So great!!!

Thanks so much for this gorgeous revival! It feels so good playing a real challenging adventure, where you have to take lots of notes and think sharply, putting your head at work to compose an intricate jigsaw of clever and logic clues! It reminds me of better times, when every single minute of gameplay was totally worth it and every effort was rewarded with new breathtaking places to explore and understand! Riddle of the Sphinx is one of the real and rare jewels recovered from a past when playing meant growing in awareness and mental skill and not just a waste of time. Beautiful!

So Excited for this Remaster!

I own this game & the sequel on the original 3 disc CDROMs, which is how it came out back in 2000. The first disc is the install disc, then you have to change CD's when you move between areas, because the game is so huge & detailed. Yes, kids, that's what we used to have to do. This is not a playthrough in a single afternoon! You can still find the original, un-HD-ified version here on GOG, too, if you want to compare. The puzzles are old school. I don't mean that in a bored & stale way. Pardon the over-used metaphor, but this is a contemporary of the original Myst. No use the banana on the goat moon logic. No silly inserted minigames that break your immersion. The closest you'll get to a minigame is solving a combination lock on a trunk in the first area, from multiple clues scattered around multiple places. No 3-digit-combo-written-on-a-scrap-of-paper. These puzzles are much more old school, work-for-it than that. You will want a freshly sharpened pencil & a legal pad to take notes outside of the game, kind of old school. But not unnecessarily punishing, either. This game is never unfair, & you won't have to squint & comb pixel-by-pixel to hunt for *ONE* hidden hotspot to advance. Every puzzle has a solution. If you want a game to insult you, go play Dark Souls. I'm so excited that there's now an "HD Enhanced Edition" with beautifully updated graphics & a smooth, modern engine. (And I'm so absurdly pleased they kept the original Papyrus font, lol. I don't know why that, in particular, makes me so happy, but it just FITS here.) I can't wait to dive back in to this underrated gem. If you're a fan of the original Myst, give this a shot. It's not derivative of Myst at all, but scratches that adventure puzzler itch, with a great sands of Egypt twist! Now I just need for GOG to release an updated version of the sequel, "The Omega Stone!"

Back after 20 years

I played this when it originally came out and now I'm playing it with my kids. Such a phenomenal game. Yes, its intricate. Yes, it's difficult. This is a old school PC game, not a Xbox-made-for-loot-boxes game. If you want to test your problem-solving capabilities, this is the game for you.

Amazing remaster of a nostalgic classic.

This is great. It has a long narrative to give you an idea of what's happening. It's a point-and-click adventure, so enjoyable for even those who don't play games often. Scenes are wonderfully constructed, and each serve their purpose, such as the helicopter looking like you could look around inside of it and then, "SURPRISE!", it's taking you to another location that you need to explore to complete the game. Turns out it wasn't just for looks! The gameplay is consistent. You'll notice some things being looked at twice from different angles, or even other sides of entire locations, such as maybe the pot of stew you encounter near the beginning of the game. When you first see it, you're like, "Ew, nasty.", but then as you search around and you notice it's viewed again from another area in the room, you may think to yourself, "This is a puzzle game and that MAY just be a clue that there's more to that pot than meets the eye.", so it's very intriguing! You're even able to take pictures of pages that you may need to reference later, which is very handy. If you're paying attention to the game you're playing, then there shouldn't be much trouble in figuring out which pages of information you'll need to take a quick snap of! No sense in taking the whole book, it isn't yours anyway. The hint screen is nicely tucked away to where it's there if you need its help, but it isn't intruding on your gameplay, so that you're actually able to give the game a fair shot. In short, gameplay is top tier. The storyline seems to be very sporadic at first but comes together as you play the game. The graphics look wonderful and have come a very long way from the original release 24 years ago. I purchased the entire deluxe version with all the extras. I'm so glad I did. The game has been brought back to life by today's standards.
