For some strange reason this isn't on GOG despite its predecessor being so. Waiting patiently for it to be on GOG. It was very entertaining watching all the humans fighting each other because you gave them too much stuff, hoping the sequel is just as good.

Description

Become a God once again in Reus 2 by taking control of mighty giants whose command over their elements allows you to shape worlds, create an ecosystem of resources and enable human civilizations to thrive. Your choices will determine the fates of these fragile human beings, whose autonomy may lead them to great heights.

Shape worlds with Giants

Utilize a roster of 6 powerful Giants, each with their own unique abilities over plants, animals and minerals that will allow you to create new biomes for humans to settle their villages. As you progress, gain inspiration to unlock more skills for your Giants, providing you with a diversity of choices.

Relationships and disasters

With the !New Cataclysm update!, you can choose to take on more optional challenges. Leaders can now form relationships with Giants and each other based on their personality, become allies through trade or go to war. Humanity can also turn against your giants, sending out Giant Hunters to destroy them! Punish them with disastrous new powers, using the elements to teach them to respect the gods.

Create thriving ecosystems

Terraform a variety of biomes, strategically build up different combinations of flora, fauna and materials specific to those environments. By experimenting, discover which combinations create the best synergies for the inhabitants' needs and goals, leading you into exciting new eras of their existence.

Lead humanity into the future

Shape the development of humanity with your choices as they evolve from early human societies to modern civilizations. Whether it's travelling to the stars as space explorers, starting a cult or wishing to cultivate nature, they will all have their goals. No matter the outcome, remember, you can always start a new humanity.

Fill a galaxy with life

Each playthrough leaves a lasting legacy in the stars by generating a new planet for you to experiment with. Fill the galaxy with endless variations of life and be inspired to take a new path with your next creation.

A worthy successor to Reus 1

This is a relaxing puzzle game that gives you challenges that are hard, but reachable (on the "giant" difficulty, at least). There are always many ways to accomplish your tasks, but it is not trivial to figure them out. There is very little time pressure, and it can be turned off altogether with the "pacifism" mode. You will create a planet that will typically have about 30 patches of ground and 3 to 5 cities, each governed by a different leader. Typically up to 2 biotica (i.e. plants, animals, and minerals) fit in each patch. There are complex interactions between available items and you have to build up your position to use the strongest ones. The progress of the cities is governed by acquisition of food, science, and wealth - these come as abstract numbers given by biotica - as well as completing the individual quests of the leaders. A full playthrough consists of a prelude and three acts, and depending on act choices game rules may be modified. There are achievements and a ton of new game elements to unlock. The game is a true successor to Reus 1. It keeps the same general idea and theme, but its mechanics is new and very interesting. After about 20 planets I feel I am still learning the game and am eager to come for more.

A nice improvement of the first game

Basically, if you liked the first game, as I did, buying the second one is a no brainer. The general game loop is very similar to the first one. You generate biomes, add nature elements and fulfill the wishes of the settlers. While this sounds rather simple, the different combinations and synergies provides you with a nice challenge. All in all, the game is more like a puzzler then a god game. What I like in Reus 2 is that you have much more influence over the world. For example, you can come chanhe the size of the biomes, you can decide where the settlers are building the city and you can even choose their projects. Moreover, the game also introduces a new era system. This also results in different buildings that influence your cities. They also removed the real time clock and replaced it with a "era points" system, and you have to select three giants from a pool of six. As you are experimenting with the different biomes, settlers, giants and eras, you'll gradually unlock new features. Thus, every run feels different and provides new challenges. If you are into calm and relaxed puzzle games, I can highly recommend Reus 2. P.S. it works flawlessly with Wine

Great game hindered by gamebreaking bugs

This improves a great deal on the first game and should make most people looking for a "god sim" game happy - as soon as the devs fix the game-breaking bugs.

Interesting, but extremely buggy

An enjoyable world building game, and I would like to play it more, progress and unlock stuff, but... The game is just so incredibly buggy. Sometimes whole eras repeat, but the worst part is at the end of the game, when sometimes the things I supposedly unlocked do not really get unlocked. For example, last game I unlocked the Frost Giant, but wasn't able to use it in the next game because it wasn't unlocked. And at the end of my current game, I end up at a screen saying "everything is unlocked", a button that literally says "Button Text", and no way to advance the game. I can only terminate it using Alt+F4. Which sucks. So, all in all, this is weird. The game makes me want to play it more, but the bugs prevent me from doing so. I hope they get fixed in future versions.

It's okay...

It's an okay game. The game slows down considerably once you get past a certain point. This probably wouldn't be so bad if the game made the effort to explain how things like "prosperity" is measured. If I could go back in time to right before I bought it, I would have told myself to wait for it to go on sale for at least $10 and it's not really worth more than that for me
