A week from a Redneck's life:

Deer Diary:

Munday: Well, we crash-landed that UFO in the desert and Bubba says he wants to go home. Heck, I don't blame him 'cause there ain't no place like Hickston. But according to my map, we're gonna have to blast our way through jack o' lope farms and a riverboat as well as a brothel (Bubba can't wait) 'fore we get home again.

Toosday: Met new folks like Daisy Mae (she's purty). Bikers, pigs, cows and jack o' lopes. I think I even saw the King at the Slurp n' Burp.

Winsday: Yeehaw! Got to joyride in a Swamp Buggy and a motorcycle that were both armed to the teeth. I hope those peoples I ran over will be alrite. I still got a darn jack 'o lope stuck in the grill though.

Thersday: New ways to destroy stuff! I found over 10 weapons like a crossbow that shoots dynamite-loaded chickens and a slingblade. Mmmm-Hmm!
Fri-day: Sure am hungry! I just need some good ol' redneck powerups like pork rinds, cow pies and some of my granpappy's moonshine!
Saterday: Boy I sure so like those toe tapping tunes by that good ol' boy Mojo Nixon.
Sunday: Heck! With all the new places we been, I sure wish my kinfolk could've come along for the ride!

Want to experience more than just a week? Then take a dip into the Redneck's world of floating whiskey and widespread pork rinds. The crazy adventure continues through Redneck Rampage, Redneck Rampage Rides Again: Arkansas and Redneck Rampage: Suckin' Grits on Route 66. Now all three games bundled together.

But wait, there's more! For those curious about the Redneck language you can download and install "Cuss Pack" add-on (follow the readme.txt file for instructions).
  • Includes Redneck Rampage, Redneck Rampage Rides Again: Arkansas and Redneck Rampage: Suckin' Grits on Route 66
  • Heal your wounds with alcohol and battle aliens redneck-style!
  • Visit famous sites like Area 51 or Route 66 and kill those damn aliens

Decent, but unspectacular

This is not a classic of the BUILD engine era, but it's got some decent laughs and weapons. And for psychobilly fans, the soundtrack features some great stuff by the likes of Mojo Nixon and the Beat Farmers. All in all, it's a neat diversion if you go in with the right mindset, but far from a must-own.

Rollicking Good Time

This tongue-in-cheek farce kept me laughing today just as much as it did way back in 1997. Take your typical early FPS (Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem), set it in the backwoods country, populate it with crazy ol' coots, cheerleaders & aliens, arm yourself with chicken-dynamite crossbows, alien arm guns & your trusty crowbar, and go searching for your best buddy, Bubba. Recall every redneck stereotype you've ever heard, and you'll find it here. Just remember; don't drink to much alkyhol or eat too many pork rinds or moon pies! You'll find yourself drunk as a skunk & flatulent too! Grab your 32 oz Can o' Whoop Ass and get ready to have some fun!!

Eseential Classic First Person Shooter.

As an FPS fan; One on the short list classics with a different pacing than the Doom, Duke 3d, type of run, gun, secret, repeat, action mechanism Redneck Rampage has a greater emphasis on searching and finding buttons, levers, and monochrome keys that at first is a puzzling exercise of what it actually looks like and finding it requires patience something unexpected and un-normal in the modern design pattern. The puzzles are clever and at times difficult as in the case of the Smelting Plant which too TWO DAYS for me to figure out how to get out of it. After the enemies are dealt with patience is the key to victory. The frustration in not finding something for a time in Redneck Rampage is offset by the amount of satisfaction it delivers upon succeeding. Something I was quite surprised and pleased with. The "having to find something-ness" that was traded for quick rewards and "addiction pacing" in modern titles is something to be learned, and experienced, but DOES need some getting used to but is a treat to be sure. The character and tone of the game is not a serious one, and it IS a quirky Redneck shooter that is as unique as it gets. It's hard to explain the amount of work Redneck Rampage shows in the design and it's actually rather amazing. This is a DOS era title that just aims to please, and as they often were back then with coarse and clever humor that has most regrettably in this day been forgotten. While FUN has been forgotten traded for pseudo serious straight faced action that has become more extreme and less satisfying there are GEMS like Redneck Rampage to remind us of what can be achieved with light, if not crude, (Perhaps too crude for some) humor, and themes. Tornado in a trailer park. aliens, inbred yokels and the kin. It is very fitting and adds to the overall character of the game. The music is very listenable, very memorable and likely to be something that gets stuck in your head. In a nut shell they don't make them like this anymore. When "AAA titles" (Triple A) show their age, simplicity, and marketed "boy band/girl band" like formula in a matter of months becoming an embarrassment to have on the shelf. There's games like Redneck Rampage holding their own and setting standards (ignored ones, your bad.) 20 years later. The 'cuss pack' is not required but is a surprising addition unexpectedly adding to the overall theme in a cohesive manner. I have played MANY first person shooters. It is a challenge to think of ones I haven't played. I highly recommend Redneck Rampage (Please note It IS a game that is going to get you a time or two. Maybe a key on a bale of hay, just sitting near a tree, something under the water or something plain that WILL escape your attention. Think practically and not METHODICALLY and it will be come easier to find things.)

Immo tell ye wut's what

This is by far the best way the Build Engine was used since Doom. Tons of humor, the redneck atmosphere (Be sure to play in a wifebeater and beer on the desk), great country music, inventive weapons (like say an Alien Energy gun...Coming packed on a cut-off hand of the said alien) and labirynth-like crazy level design that will often get you lost in it's complexity. If anything else worth checking out to see how fun and creative FPS games USED to be
