Rebel Galaxy Outlaw

This game was effectively abandoned after the developer decided to go one year Epic exclusive, was given a lot of flak by the gaming community, and he decided to rage-quit game development to make audiobooks instead. Because of this the DLC plans and the promissed mod-backend were never delivered, though he did somehow manage to keep it going long enough to get it released on GOG, Steam, and all the major consoles including Switch. Funny thing, that. I liked the game even with it's flaws, but the way he handled it is pretty terrible IMHO.

The piloting in this is great, makes me think of the old Rogue Squadron games with how fast things turn and how well things move in comparison to the slow plodding you get in games like Elite: Dangerous. Everything else is just super sub par. From a clunky commodities system to a lack of ships. But that would only deserve a 2/5 if that was the case. Playable and fun at times if underdeveloped and clunky. What takes it down to the 1/5 level is that the game is fundamentally broken. It will minimise itself out of nowhere and leave you with a targeting reticule for a mouse while you look at your desktop, no way of bringing it back up short of Task Managering it to death and restarting. It will occasionally turn your screen an inescapable grey colour, that even CTRL+ALT+DELing won't get you out of, requiring a hard reboot of your computer. I've had five of those two combined so far, and I haven't even been playing for three hours total yet.

No, really. It is. The guild office is missing the Love Your Dad poster though. If you loved the original as much as I did you'll like this.

Great arcade space game. I have been looking for something similar to Freelancer and the first Galaxy on Fire for Ipad. This is the closest thing i've found. After a while tough the systems and world gets a bit "samey" - I wish there was more variety both visually in the different systems and storywise. For me i had great fun in this game for around 25 hours, which is well worth it. (Played on PS4 not PC...).

I know it is a little daunting to purchase this game based on the reviews, but I am so glad that I did. I think this is the kind of game where it is either for you or not. If you like this kind of game I think you would love it. If a game where are you “live the life“ and work hard to build your ship, tackle harder and harder challenges, and grow your abilities appeals to you, then you’ll love this game. If you’re just looking for an action shooter, which this has components of, you may be frustrated with the “live the life“ aspects and instead prefer an action oriented shoot them up. However, if you already know that you like this kind of game then go for it. I have been enjoying the heck out of this game for over 15 hours and I have just scratched the surface of the story. I love running the missions, building my Ship, Mining and trading, and I love the character of Juno. This is just a really good game. I also like playing a game of high stakes eight ball in the station bars. Honestly, it’s a good pool simulation in addition to a fantastic space experience.
