Out of cash, out of luck, out on the fringe. Juno Markev has a killer to tail, a debt to pay, and more trouble headed her way. Rebel Galaxy Outlaw takes place in a greasy, blue-collar world of outlaws, truckers, cops and thieves.
Strap into a variety of spacecraft, settle a score in a filthy space-bar over a game of 8-ball, rock out to over 24 hours of music, and engage in white-knuckle dogfights.
In the Dodge Sector it’s hard to get by – and even harder to get even.
Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is an open-world space combat adventure game, spread across the nearly 40 systems of the Dodge Sector. Play as a mercenary, a trader, a pirate, or whatever mix of the three you feel fits you best. With an engaging storyline and a full conversation system, you can follow the narrative, or ignore it and forge your own path at any time.
Engage in white-knuckle combat, and use the included Autopursuit function to effortlessly fly like an ace, instead of space-jousting for hours. Save up your credits, buy a new ship, kit it out, and then paint it in a fully-fledged 3d-painting application. Make a fortune exploiting lucrative trade routes. Join guilds, help or hunt those in distress, buy and outfit your own space station. Grab a tip in a local bar and hunt hidden treasure. In your down-time, shoot some 8-ball, play some dice-poker, or aim for the high-score in an arcade game in the local seedy watering hole. Flip through the 7 included radio stations and vast music library for just the right track to fit your current mood.
There are not enough single player games like this but this is not a great game.
The UX kind of sucks in general and space combat is very poorly done.
On the concourse
- purchasing ships has no comparison view
- the interface outfitting the ship is possibly done in the laziest way possible.
- the bar and trading could have been done a LOT better
Space combat
- This would have been bad space combat 10 years ago.
- bad graphics, controls, physics, etc...
Unfortunately there are very few games like privateer - single player, ships, trading, space combat, etc... - and so this gains a star for trying otherwise it would be a 1 star game instead of 2.
The game was cheap though so it's not worth requesting a refund.
I didn't play this on gog but like to review stuff here. Main problem this game has is the awful UI and controls. Graphically I like the art style and voice acting and music are good. The game loop of doing missions and upgrading your ship is also one that I like.
What really drags the game down is the UI and the controls, it has one of the wierdest and least intuitive button layouts of any game I have ever played using a controller. From many other revieews I've read it's not any better with mouse and keyboard and doesn't support hotas properlly either. On setup you get the option to show ps4 buttons, I'm using a ps4 controller to play it so picked that option but in game isnstead of press square, press circle press R2 etc I get press 1 press 6 hold etc constantly. WTF are they on a ps4 controller.
If the controlls and the UI were fixed this would be a solid 4 star game but as is I'm giving it 2 stars only because the graphics, sound, voice acting music and stability are good otherwise I'de give it one star.
I had the unfortunate pleasure to play this game on Steam and refunded it after half an hour.
There is some value in some of the cartoonish designs and "Star Wars" feels, but that's it.
It looks and play like un unfinished project. There is no cohesion between the Ui, character design, cut scenes, and gameplay.
It's repetitive and uninteresting.
I am sure that the people working on title are talented and dedicated but they clearly lacked time, budget and art power to make this game.
A spiritual successor of Freelancer.
I didn't buy on GOG, but i have a good experience with this game.
Pros.
*Best soundtraks in all games a ever played. change to station to the station and you will find one to suit your taste, i personaly like the dark country station "The Stinger"
*Combat is very arcade, it's easily especially for those just wan't to jump for the action, its simple and you won't struggle to much with controls once you get the hang of it.
The storyline in the game is good, not the best of all, but good enough to keep you playing to see the ending, also, the story isn't very linear, so you won't be forced to follow the story if you don't want too, much like an open world game, you can travel the galaxy map whatever you want without engage on the storyline.
*Is one of the most stylized space shooter games, remind a lot 90's space shooter games.
*Juno Markev is a very relatable character and you will like her for sure. along some other memorable ones like Ruth.
*Theres a ship painting tool that you can use to paint your ship WHATEVER way you like it! If you are a streamer you going to love this feature.
Cons
The IA is relentless in higher levels to the point of getting anoying, watch out for ambushes.
The game is too extensive at some point it gets repetitive.
Theres just a small handfull of ships and just some few variations.
Theres not enough variety of objectives and rewards to keep you invested in the game, in the long run, so at some point the only reward you will actually have is the story.
Overall the game is good enough for casual players, it isn't elite dangerous, Star Citzen or X4, but it's a good space shooter that will keep you hooked for days having a lot of fun.
