Fun and addictive!
It is hard not to sit down to play this game for hours on end. Not a day goes by that I don't find myself thinking about my battle tactics or what combination of weapons would work best on my ship, etc. I also like the dry humor sprinkled throughout the game.

Hoo-lee shit. That game's AWESOME!
Really, I just couldn't drag myself off it until I've finished the whole campaign... And then some. It's not perfect, and could use a little more lovin' but... The soundtrack is absolutely superb, and it adds to the overall climate of the game (actually it's the first time that I've actually left the original soundtrack, and not muting it and playing my own selection in the background, so it's a huge plus. One minus is that you're restrained to having only a single ship (though you can pick from, like... 21 different vessels) Buying a new one automatically sells the old. It would be better to be able to have few of them, lets say... One for combat, one for mining and so on. And add a ship-capture feature... The victor's spoils... Anyways, that game just dethroned the "X" series in my ranking. Definately worth buying.

Scratches that itch.
If you're looking for a solid space combat game, this will tide you over for a while. It's stuck in the x-axis, as others have said, but it's not really a huge deal if you ask me. Plenty of ships to choose from, so if you're one of those people that likes starting from a small corvette and working your way towards that awesome dreadnought, you'll have a good time. Combat is simple, but you have plenty of weapon options to choose from. The story is pretty much non-existant though, but I don't personally know too many space sims that have decent stories (although I'm sure there are some.) All in all, if you're itching for a solid space sim and want to blow up enemy ships, this is a solid choice.
