Description
Rebel Galaxy is a swashbuckling space adventure, with action-packed combat, exploration, discovery, trade, and “negotiation” with the outlandish denizens at the edge of the known universe.

As the commander of an immensely powerful star destroyer, you’ll battle pirates, explore anomalies, befriend aliens, scavenge battle wreckage, mine asteroids, and discover artifacts. Choose your path as a roguish do-gooder, crafty space-trader or power-hungry privateer – or maybe a little of each! Buy larger and more powerful craft with your hard-earned credits, and outfit them with a variety of wicked weapons and defenses. Set in a galaxy of fantastic sights, and secrets to be found, Rebel Galaxy is above all a space epic of adventure, exploration, and combat.

The edge of the universe is a pretty dangerous place, so watch your back.
  • Captain a massive spaceship engaging in epic scale space battles.
  • Trade, negotiate, mine asteroids, hunt bounties, be a pirate and explore a randomized open-world galactic map.
  • Make your own path through a dialog-tree driven storyline making friends and enemies of a variety of alien factions

Good but can be better.

Pros: - Voice acting for the various contacts and mercenaries. The Pseudo-Swedish one of them has is brilliant. - Graphics are pretty good. - Ships feel different depending on which one you pilot. - Plenty of stuff to do. I cleared out a whole bunch of missions only to find loads more to do. - Music is great! Reminds me a lot of the intro to Sons of Anarchy. Cons: - You're stuck on the horisontal plane. This is mind boggling to me. So much space all around and you can only move on the X-axis. - Camera. I've yet to find a way to change how far/near I want to see my ship. Right now, it's all up in my face and it makes it hard to see stuff all around. - Combat difficulty can be either punishingly hard or laughable easy. there's really no curve to it. It has me scratching my head when I encounter the same enemies in the same space after dying, only to find out that they're much less of a threat this time around. - Ship combat is, well, boring. It's dumbed down and I attribute this to you being stuck on the horisontal plane. It could easily have been so much better. I can only hope this will be added later to the game. All in all, it's a pretty decent game. It's easy to get into, has great controller support and pretty decent gameplay. It's not without its flaws but if you can overlook them the gameplay will suck you in and keep you occupied for hours to come. There's nothing like a smuggling run of cola (yes, some systems/stations have banned cola. The nerve!) and earn bucket loads of credits. Final score: 7/10. It's good but it can be so much better. Time will tell what the devs have in store for us. If anything, pick it up for the great music.

Pirates in spaaace!

Was waiting for it, saw it released, instabought it. And I am not regretting this. First of all. Music. I can't define the genre but it is called as southern rock. It gives you a space western jibe. Turns out you don't have to go full orchestral to make space battles epic. Also for its mellow tunes you can dock upon a station and let it run in the background and do your real life work. It is that brilliant. As for the gameplay it doesn't lack from its audio side. You own a brick, let's be honest here your first ship steers like one, with broadsides and other sorts of weaponry and do work. Its battle system is basic but surprisingly complex. You really don't wonder why there isn't any third plane of movement (yes you move in a 2d plane in a 3d space) because you have tons of things to do. You have to aim for the cap ships, dodge the missile volleys via deflector beams, take care of the range while broadsiding'em. And it is so fun and balanced! Its system requirements are very low by the way. I can definitely say that this game reminded me of "Sid Meier's Pirates" in a good way. It is in space, it doesn't involve dancing with governor's daughters (god I hated that minigame) and you have a procedurally generated huge space which you can do your "murder & profit" act. All in all. Buy it. You won't regret it.

Superb

Rebel Galaxy is really well done. Great graphics, starships feel right, game play is pretty fun, music is great and stuff is happening all the time. This makes for a really great package. At first I was worried a bit that just 14-16 Systems coupled with you being always stuck on the horizontal plain would make for a small non immersive game but after playing for a few hours this couldnt be further from the truth. Systems are pretty big places and they feel alive with things always happening all around you. It actually feels quite immersive. The combat is actually quite challenging even this early in the game. Story line seems good so far too, its a bit too early for me to judge objectively but it does have a good start. Typical of space games, everyone you go to for help to asks something from you in return but hey at least your character realizes that as well and complains about it all the time, hows that for immersion ? :)

Good but not great

It's a decent game for a couple hours but gets repetetive and grindy fast. Start in a sector where everything will murder you on sight, slowly get new gear grinding the random missions (Freelancer style), move to another sector and start all over again. - Story is decent but gets sidelined by the grind. - UI isn't the best but the hotkeys plastered all over it keep it from getting confusing. - Graphics are nice in a J. J. Abrams way - lens flare and all possible disco particle effects. - Your ship especially if it's one of the taller models gets in the way and camera doesn't know what to do so you can't see jack. I didn't find any way to zoom or pan the camera (they should copy the way it's done in Void Destroyer). - Bigger battles get confusing fast, sometimes you wonder how you survived all of that onslaught of capital ships and missiles sometimes you get owned in a couple of seconds by a wing of tiny bombers you can't even see without the target markers shooting you with little put-put guns. - Annoying automatic sublight speed randomly speeding and slowing down the ship. - Ingame economy is pretty dynamic (most of the Elite styled games nail this more or less). - If you forget to dock from time to time you can lose hours of grinded money on death.

Classic of Gargantuan Proportions!

When I first saw this game way back in May I had a feeling and quiet hope that this would finally be the Freelancer/Privateer type game I have so long yearned for. Well folks looks no further! This is an instant classic as far as I am concerned (own this on Steam Platform). This game has so much going for it the only reall negative thing I can say about it is that is has no multiplayer. I do not really care about multiplayer in a game like this just as I did not mind doing without it in Privateer. There is just so much to do whether you wanna mine (a.k.a. space truckin'), you wanna be a pirate go for it. You wanna play through the main mission....well you can do that too. You have the freedom to do all this stuff at your little old space tail waggin' whim! Such a treat to see a game like this finally grace our presence. If you are or were remotely into Privateer, Freelancer, or any type of space game of that nature you cannot go wrong with this gem! It will be played by myself until every last ounce of fun is squeezed outta this puppy. And so far there is so much to be had. So much fun...you should be ashamed of yourself for not buying this since it is also listed at a darn good price! Buy it you will not regret it!!!
