Rain World

GOG does not show how many hours I've actually spent on this game and I've been playing so much it feels like I've known it forever. The game is better played blind but I've been spoiled on its mechanics years before I got to actually play it, nevertheles it has become my favourite in pretty much every aspect. I'm not going to list the features here, if you want to see how the game is look at the games page or watch a video or something idc. Before you start thought know that in order to properly enjoy the game you should be more than comfortable with failing again and again and again, because most players get frustrated and stop before the "good part", but depending on why you enjoy the game everything can be the good part! Before you know how to get around and defend yourself and survive in general it's still really intresting to expiriment and see how everything works. Finding every way a creature can (and will) kill you, learning the movement tech by sheer acident, making friends with the scavs for the first time, all of this is like learning how to live again but with less school and more stabbing,,, it's PERFECT! play it, you will regret it. This is one of the best Indie games I have ever played. It is hard, sometimes frustrating, but it is unique and has its vibe.

very obscure. you are a predator and also the prey in a functioning and vicious ecosystem. i don't understand half of it but i love it all the same.

I started using GOG because they were re-releasing games I grew up with, that I already went back to every now and then in order to revisit those memories and stay familiar with a little virtual place I loved, doing little virtual things I enjoyed. I was hoping to discover more games that gave me that feeling, and Rain World is maybe one of the best of what I've come across. There's a ton of information from other reviews and the larger community on getting new players through the early adjustment period or guiding people to just explore and try things out as part of the experience. So from me I'll say something a little simpler. If you have old games that you are nostalgic for, and you know how it feels to go back and enjoy them no matter how the conventions and expectations of video games have moved on from them, Rain World is a modern game that satisfies that feeling. Rather than being dated, it's unconcerned with doing anything but what it set out to do. This game is a vibe, and everything it does is for the sake of getting you into that same vibe.
