Race the Sun

Brilliant. Just bought it and played solidly for 90 minutes without even realising. The constant updating of goals for achieving a new level is a great idea, will need to see tomorrow what the new daily worlds thingie is like. There are a million and one games like this since 8-bit days and none has ever got it just perfect like this. The sense of speed and easy movement is fantastic, joyous, even. The sparse, clear graphics are beautiful and anything but bleak, which is a danger with this visual style and the infinite horizon. The low-key music fits perfectly. Just great. Must stop, need to sleep at some point. *I would like to be able choose/unlock different colour palettes (like in Rez) and some thumping trance tracks would be a great future update, again, optional by unlock or something.

It is a great little game I keep coming back to ever few days or so. Unfortunately the online functionality seems to now (July 2024) be permanently gone. Oh well ... it was nice while it lasted. It is still possible to play the game offline, but there are a max of 3 playable courses (once you have unlocked them) to play versus the hundreds (of which usually about a dozen were decent and fun) of user created ones. TLDR: Great game, aged well, lots of fun, now missing online functionality.

The game (version 1.455) runs beautifully on an elder Pentium 4 HT 3.06Ghz under Windows, with no visible glitches. On such a a 10 year old PC, commands are reactive and 3D rendering is at its best. Configuring a gamepad is a no brainer too. It is amazing how such an entertainment has been packed in around 100MB. One small drawback with the UI: do not try to enter the leaderboard if you are not connected; I found no way to escape but the Windows key + aborting the game.

This game is terrific fun, and I can't wait for them to enable the rift in-game (they're working on it)

I'd like to point out to a certain someone below that needing an account, which is only available using a key from buying the game, to play online is not really DRM. You can still play it just fine without being logged in. You can install it on as many computers as you have. There's just a login for online play and leaderboards. As far as the game itself goes I'd love to see a better method of getting upgrades than playing through countless incredibly strange achievements. I can imagine this becoming a real pain as you get closer to level 25 as it's already starting to slow down a lot and I've just hit level 12. I've only had it for a little while, so I've only seen a few of their daily levels, but both of them have been a lot of fun and varied. One was a mostly ground based slalom course, another was based on staying up off the ground and twitching through tight obstacles. The user levels are a real mixed bag. Some are wonderfully made, others are incredibly bad and even use colors that are painful to look at. I've already shared this to G+, and I don't often (the last game to get that was The Witcher) do that, this game definitely earns my recommendation.
