Game Description

 Shortly after landing on an alien surface, you learn that hundreds of your men have been reduced to just a few. Now you must fight your way through heavily fortified military installations, lower the city's defenses and shut down the enemy's war machine. Only then will the fate of humanity be known.

About Quake II RTX

Quake II RTX builds on the work of Christoph Schied and the team at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, who added ray tracing to Quake II to create Q2VKPT (in turn building upon the Q2PRO code base). NVIDIA has introduced new path-traced visual effects, has improved texturing, and has made dozens of other changes and improvements, resulting in an experience that rivals games created today, and pushes your RTX hardware to the limit.

Quake II RTX is fully ray-traced and includes the 3 levels from the original shareware distribution.

It’s an oppressively brown shooter, but it still carries the speedy, lightweight combat that makes older FPS games still pop today. The changes that Nightdive brought in for the remaster make it even more enjoyable and accessible.

Amazing lighting effects thanks to RTX

With the ray tracing effects this is an interesting hybrid of antiquated 90s 3D modeling and next-gen dynamic shadows, lighting, and reflections. I was able to get 60 fps with a Ryzen 5700 and GeForce 3060. If you have an Nvidia RTX card, this game is a great way to put it to the test. The only downside for me was the game would often crash when saving/loading.

It still is an amazing game and RTX is exactly what was missing. It looks great, plays great. Not sure about the complains, I played it right when it was released on RTX 2080 and it worked perfectly fine with ray tracing. Now in 4070Ti in 4K runs like magic. Maybe the level design is not prefectly on par with contemporary games, but c'mon after 27 years it still is a great game. Also the music works perfectly fine for me with Quake II full game from GOG
