Quake 4

Running Win 10 64-bit, i7 CPU @ 3.4GHz, 32Gb RAM and a GTX 970. I had no problems running this game other than it locking up 2 times. That's really not too bad considering the length of the game and how old it is. I mean, running on a modern system. Quake 4 is basically like its predecessors but with better graphics. The storyline, to me, isn't much. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just not a deep storyline. Your character fights aliens along a linear path while, as with most games, gaining more powerful weapons and defeating bosses as the story progresses. I gave Quake 4 a three star rating becuase it just wasn't that interesting to me. You, however, may absolutely love it. Regardless, I purchased the Quake series while on sale here at GoG and am satisfied because I didn't spend a lot of money.

Quake 4 is a perfect example of assembly line mid 2000s shooters. Through much of the game, you receive orders from your fellow marines that either accompany you or communicate by radio. It's somewhat superfluous as the game's level are linear corridor shooters with only one way. Here and there is the token turret-on-rails or vehicle section, again with only one possible direction in which to move. Like Doom 3 and Prey, Quake 4 uses the id tech 4 engine, but rather than the evocative visual design of the other two titles, the environments in Quake 4 mostly feel bland and uninspiring. Most of the enemies are interesting and look the part of the Strogg, each of them feeling somewhat unique to fight. And while the railgun is a bit disappointing, most of the guns generally feel good. Unfortunately, the good parts of the game aren't quite enough to save the game from the uninspiring level design and storyline. While there isn't anything technically wrong with Quake 4, it's just so incredibly boring.

A good solid old school shooter with a decent single player story. Multiplayer is a so so add on that feels like a Quake 3 mod but is solid even if a bit dull. Glad its on GoG as its from the end of the local coop era.

Definitely not real classic nor great masterpiece, but still good craftsmanship. This mightn't be a game every FPS fan should know but it's definitely worth playing if you want some good sci-fi FPS.

Yeah so back in the day I played about half never beat it forget why, I am a huge old school ID fan and this is basically the last game that you can call that. I got it on steam for better networking and it seems to have less technical problems than I see listed here too. The game is a fabulous and challenging FPS as it should be multiplayer is decent and still servers. Single player is very short like COD short eff so yeah play it on the highest difficulty you can because a game this short only fun for about 8-10 hours. Windows 8.1 10 users turn mouse precision off and you will get rid of the weird mouse lag.
