It's Storggin' Time!

I remmebered when I gave this a spin during my 360 days and finding it pretty average, so color me shocked how much I like it now in my adult years. Granted, not everything is peachy keen between having to install some mods to get the game actually looking good or how bloody exhuasting it gets towards the end of it but overall, this is a slck, violent and very polished shooter that I think any FPS fan can get behind. And despite it age, the visuals do hold up pretty well (the lighting esepcially). It goes on sale pretty frequently so if you wanna give it go, go ahead. It's worth it.

Surprisingly good

I honestly really liked this one. I found the story interesting and the gameplay fun. I liked that it was different than other quakes and moved the story along a bit. Worth the money IMO.

A very enjoyable old school shooter

I had no idea that such a game as Quake IV exist until I saw that it was released on GOG. People were comparing to Doom 3, which I enjoyed very much, so decided to give it try. I was pleasantly surprised. This game has many good things going for it. Quake IV shares its engine with Doom 3 but it looks somewhat better. On maximum settings it looks pretty damn good. At places it's even very beautiful. For example, there's a level where one enters into an underground laboratory with a team. They all have headlights on and the resulting lightning and atmospheric effects are absolutely beautiful. Quake IV has plenty of great visual levels. The use of lightning and color is rarely as good in modern games. There's a good variety of environments that you pass through so it's always interesting to look around. What I especially liked is that most of the environments are very lively. There's always machines grinding, bots flying around, lights and vents spinning and so on. This gives really interesting look and feel to the game. There's also a good variety of guns, enemies and boss fights. Moreover, unlike most modern games, every gun needs to be used tactically. If you enter an area with a wrong gun and are not quick enough to switch, you will be dead. Certain guns are more effective in certain situations and against certain enemies. Enemies range from foot soldiers to scary beast to epic bosses. The AI is pretty good and there's no way you can sit in one place and just pew-pew like in modern games. You have to be quick to move around, learn the behavior of the enemies and use a right weapon. Overall a very good and enjoyable game. When I started playing I couldn't stop anymore and played it several days until I finished it. Recommended.

A good, old school FPS

While the first half of the game doesn't feel "right", the second half of the game is a great Quake experience: fast, with a lot of big and lethal weapons fighting monsters and abominations. While not a masterpiece, it's an honest, old school FPS with a lot of action and explosions.

Sequel I was waiting for

I loved Quake 2 when I was young, completed it many times and really enjoyed it. With Quake 4 finally came second part of my adventure, because invasion at the beginning of this game was possible thanks to completing main objective in Quake 2. I felt immediatelly pulled into action as in its prequel and i was satisfied with every aspect of it. It got everything I always wanted from sequel to quake 2 if there ever be any. Multiplayer in q3 was really good and fun, but I'm more singleplayer oriented.
