Psychonauts 2 is fantastic. It is one of the best games I've played in 2021 and I hope we wont have to wait 16 years for part 3. Each mindscape you enter is a delight to explore. Every brain you visit is incredibly memorable, and they all burst with captivating designs. Some are whimsical, some heartfelt, some creepy and some very, very dark. You just never know what to expect. While linear at start it eventually becomes much more open giving you an option to take on different tasks in any order you like. Figments and other collectibles are much easier to find There is a lot of accessibility options like colorblind mode, easier combat or invincibility to help make the game a smoother experience You can easily skip cutscenes, including splash screens at the start Combat still feels clunky and tacked on Psi Power upgrades and pins hardly make a difference - most of them are pretty useless While platforming and combat gameplay is tighter, it is still a far cry from games like Mario Galaxy or A Hat in Time, and it really feels stuck in the past. The unconventional writing and ingenious world design carry an otherwise middling platformer to greater heights. Like almost all Double Fine games - it is amazingly inventive but gameplay-wise it is just good.

In the "triple a" era where most "assembly line" style games have generic sexy doll characters or generic realistic gritty art styles it's so refreshing to see a game full of creativity and quirkiness, in an honest way, that comes from the mind of a creator and not a spreadsheet from the marketing team. In Psychonauts 2 the worlds that you visit are just as original and creative as the ones from the first game. Overall the majority feel more fragmented or too much like they are made of mini-levels but this is countered by all the varied and crazy things that the designer(s) managed to do with each level. I love the voices and the animations for each character in Psychonauts 2. One of the things I hate in triple a games (and some indie games) is the stock motion capture data given to all characters for dialogues and which is disconnected from what's going on in the scene. But in this game the animations during the cutscenes resonate with each character personality making them feel more alive. On the negative side unfortunately even with the long development time I found a couple of issues that probably should be ironed out. There worst one for me was that later in the game in at least a couple of places I accidentally got Raz stuck and also out of bounds which forced me to have to exit to be able to return to a previous checkpoint. In terms of finding the collectibles for some reason I find this game feels more tedious than the first one. Perhaps because some stages are fragmented into several mini-scenes so it's harder to keep track what places were and which weren't searched. Overall the release of Psychonauts 2 was a very happy surprise for me. It's nice that in a time where hundreds of garbage indie and triple a games are released every month there's still the occasional gem that really is worth playing.

While I admit there are some rough parts, and the combat is... not the best, the overall experience is still mind-blowing (no pun intended). The characters, the aesthetics, the music, and especially the stage designs are just absolutely phenomenal. I can't remember the last time I've had so much fun with a game, and while it can be finished comfortably in 15-ish hours, without gathering all the collectibles and other junk. I wouldn't recommend rushing it. So much of the game's charm comes from just going around and talking to the characters, their reactions, and just all the fun ways they respond to the events of the plot, some of which can be missed if one rushes the game too much. Overall, an amazing experience pretty much from beginning to end. Highly recommended.

This game is excelente in its gender. The game mechanics are great and they are consistent throughout the entire game. The narrative is very good written, it is interesting and does not lack originality. Buy it!! and if it is on sale, buy it for you and another one for a friend of yours.

I came away so impressed with what Double Fine achieved here not just as a follow up to a classic but as something that truly lives up to the potential of the Psychonauts concept. All the classic characters are here but this game spends more time pushing the boundaries rather than making call-backs, with genuinely heartfelt and introspective moments. As a platformer too this is incredibly fluid and fun to bounce around in and they continued to implement new ideas that tie into the world so well.
