Psychonauts

I just finished playing Psychonauts after having it in my backlog for many years. As a 3d platformer from three console generations ago, Psychonauts holds up impressively well when it comes to controls and gameplay and the humour mostly works pretty well even today. I also enjoyed the various boss battles that helped preventing the game from feeling stale despite my playthrough taking about 17 hours or so and in all honesty, I felt pretty done with the game some time before the credits rolled. The difficulty increase in certain areas are letdown - not because it's impossible to overcome the challenges but because they don't really add any fun but rather detracts from it. Still, I know now why it's considered a classic and I can't wait to give the sequel a go!

It is a massive shame how few people got to play this game. You would not only be doing the developers a favor, but yourself too, by buying this gem. It's really hard to stress this enough... If you are undecided as to whether to spend your money or not, please do not let yourself pass by this rather sizable opportunity. Don't take only my word for it - see the other multitudes of good reviews on this site and others!

NOTE: I'm a very hard reviewer and barely I give a game more than 3 stars. Also, I only review them after I complete it. Summary: The good: Graphics, Control, History, Inmersion, Balanced. The bad: Stability, Replay Value. If I had to define this game in two words, they would be Charming and Original. The charactes are very good planed, the half of them have a background history. It has a lot of scenarios that really impact you, you wouldn't expect them in a game like this, and they do this game everything except boring. The controls are good, I played with a Xbox One gamepad, but the keyboard seems perfectly fine. It's long enough to keep you adicted a lot of days, but not too long to bore you. Also, it depends how hard you look for items. One thing that I liked was that if you dont look for these items or you're short of tries, the game will be more difficult, but not imposible at all. Now, why not five stars? Because, the history is very good, but not epic to let you wishing play again... and there is no difficulty settings to help it. I don't see myself playing it again never, it hasn't any replay value. Also, it crash frecuently at the load/save moments. I highly encourage you to save frecuently in different slots, because if the game is saved while its saving, the file will be corrupted and the game will crash everytime it tries to load it. It can happens with the autosave too. I would recomend this game, but remember, save frecuently!

Psychonauts ranks on my personal top three as one of the best (if not THE best) video game I've ever played. It's so incredibly imaginative, brilliantly written, hilarious, exciting and event quite moving at times. Even though it received decent reviews at the time it was released I still think it was a severely under estimated. This is not just a "fun" game - it an absolute masterpiece where everything just seems to come perfectly together. The characters are amazing, the level design is genius and the visual style of the game is absolutely beautiful. If anyone asks me what I like about video games, Psychonauts is the best answer I can give.
