While its reason for existence may initially seem to be for paying homage to its genre's forefathers, Project Warlock quickly grows into a game all its own, providing an enthralling shooter experience all the way to the end.

Project Warlock is a real delight; impeccably put together, looks fantastic, and feels great to play. Some niggles over high difficulty at the beginning and a clunky radial menu but retro fans will be delighted.

Project Warlock is a Doom-like that packs a punch. The levels are full of secrets, the enemies have a great range of behaviours, and the weapons – boy, the weapons – are a joy to use. Add all of that to the 60 levels to learn and explore and the challenges provided by the higher difficulty levels and you have a winning formula. Even if the pixel graphics aren't your usual cup of tea, Project Warlock is more than worth your time. This is a journey to Hell that is well worth the ride.

Astonishingly Great!
The game feel, sound design and overall gist of the game is absolutely stellar, it feels great to do what you do, and have fun doing it! The only real issue, which seems to be limited to just me and 1 other, is that the movement as the player feels very jittery and non-smooth, I do not know how to fix this issue personally, but i've reported this issue to the developer and i'm hoping for a fix of some kind! Other than that though, its 10/10!

Just not that good of a retro shooter
This game is more Wolf3D\ROTT than it is Doom. And this isn't a good thing. Wolf3D with it's flat and dull level design just hasn't aged well, and this game doesn't get any extra bonus points just for having some neat looking pixel graphics. Within just 30 or so min of gameplay I was already bored out of my mind. It also doesn't help that the game for some insane reason thought it would be a good idea to not allow any mid game saving which means having to restart if you die. Wasn't the benefit of PC gaming back then that you could have mid-level saves where as this wasn't possible to do on the console? Why eliminate one of the biggest advantages of PC gaming in a game that is intended to emulate the greatness of the past pc gaming era? Other issues with this game include bad pacing, clunky melee combat, and bad encounter design. I just can't recommend this game even if you are somebody who enjoyed old school classics like Doom or Duke 3D. It's just not that good. I'm sorry. I hear the author of this game is only 19 years old. Well it shows, because clearly he needs more experience as a game dev before he can make something good. 5\10

Retro sells regardless of quality
Looks like these days you can just cobble together a weak Rise Of The Triad clone, stamp 'retro' and 'classic FPS' all over it and call it a day. I've seen free Doom mods of better quality (Action Doom 2 comes to mind). 1 star, +1 for the music.
