Privateer 2: The Darkening

I played it twice long time ago. That long that only looking at the screenshots I recalled it - familiar shields, 'futuristic gui' (it was back then). I recommend to whoever likes the space sims. I also enjoyed X-Wing and Tie Fighter back then. Might just play it again if I ever get fired and suddenly have some spare time on my hands :)

I've been waiting for this. I bought this when it was first released and completed it. I found it to be a great game. Nice balance between sand box open ended play and a storyline.

I played this game a few years back and i still remember the 'ambiance' immersing the player into a life of space dog fights and space adventure. fun as hell.. one of the greatest sci fi games in my humble opinion.

This was (WAS) one of the most difficult games to replay in this day and age. It was on my wishlist and here it is! Even back in the day, getting this game up and running was sometimes a challenge, but once you did, it was endless gameplay. Glad to have it again.

First thing to note is this is nothing like the previous Privateer game. The universe is different, and the gameplay has changed significantly. There are no Kilrathi, and far fewer systems to explore. You also cannot fly freighters anymore. Instead you hire freighters and escort them to their destinations. As such gameplay can be repetitive. You go up in your fighter, you kill the same pirate ships over and over and you come back down. That being said, Privateer 2 is a game to get simply for the plot. This game is peak when it comes to FMV, with actual big name British actors involved. It's a dark, twisty plot with set pieces that at times remind me of Terry Gilliam's work in movies like Brazil. It's definitely worth a look if you're a fan of space sims.
