15% into the game and the glitches have been so many and so severe that I rate the game UNPLAYABLE.
You get stuck in corners, you get stuck on pressure platforms, you get drawn into corners next to pressure platforms and cant get out, you get stuck on bridges. The final let down came when I over and over got stuck on the last part of a bridge and could not progress any further.
As of 2024, this game is completely unplayable. You will be paying for 15% of the entire game. Complete waste of time.
Unfortunately nowadays it may be janky and odd if u havent played this before.
The controls and the camera are the worst parts. I died many times because they werent synchronized... and the prince decied to jump the worng way.... Time to rewind...
Really wanted to give this game a higher score since i really liked the story and the way it was presented for the most part. The reason for my rating is mostly down to the combat in the game. At the start of the game, enemies aren't much to worry about since you can jump over most of them or dodge around them easily. Once you gain an ally, it's when you really get to see what the combat is going to be like for the rest of the game. Enemies tend to crowd around you and teleport if you try to move away to isolate any of them. While you do have good abilities to help you (reverse time, freeze enemies, jump over, dodge roll) they just didn't hlep with my frustration. The fact that you have to finish enemies with your time dagger also made the fights annoying. At times fights would drag on because i couldn't finish off the enemies cause the others would crowd in and not allow me to finsh the enemy on the ground or it would result in me reversing time to avoid attacks. All of the previous complains might of been acceptable if it wasn't for the camera. The camera is controllable but only to a certain degree. It tends to get stuck behind walls or goes behind curtains or pillars during combat. At least the puzzle are good to ok. The platforming is also ok but again the camera does complicate things at times. Did run into a few bugs, biggest was the fog that i had to turn off at the start of the game. I played it with kb for a bit before switching to controller. Had to look up the console controls to map the controller since it was unmapped by default. Overall im glad i got to experience the story of this game.
This one of the last phrases in the game and its totally true.
I was fan of original PoP (at least its NES version, where you have only 1 hour to complete the game and saves to save the progress between levels), so I knew what this game should look like when I played it at the first time maybe 16-17 years ago. And it was good - and it is now, after my 2nd re-run I can say - it aged well.
Good:
+Soundtrack (soft oriental-like rock) fits the game perfectly
+ Puzzles - neither easy no difficult, balanced enough to complete the game without dying with using rewind if you are skilled enough, but most important - they never (!) frustrated me enough to quit the game. The were 2 points in the game (for 7 hours walkthrough) where I stuck for maybe 20 minutes, because I just suck at platforming (despite of completion Lara Croft - LAU series, lol)
Mediocre:
¬Fights and combat system - if you haven't ever played Warrior within, you could exclude this point. Basically there are no combos in this game, several types of attacks and parries (I was literally shocked - I played Russian fully localized version before and he game hints NEVER mentioned that. It works well enough, especially in 1v1
- deathloops - absorption of enemy or freezing one gets rewind buffer to reset - so if you have no health -you will die after getting hit, no matter how many sand charges you have
Bad(?):
- Fixed camera angles (irritating) - you can jump in different direction, than you expected
Strategy advice:
¬do not use multi-freeze for all charges - enemies are locked at 4-at-once, you will never get enough value of it (IMO much better to use basic freeze on enemies that counter your jumping over them, hit them once, wait until they fall and absorb - you spend 1 meter and return 0.5
Summary - great game that is perfect for a person who never played puzzles and platformers - but want to give it a shot. Nice story (but some moments are 14 or 16+) so I do not recommend children to play this game
After figuring out controller remaps, you learn that there is no way to control the speed of the right stick camera and boy does it fight you on every single platforming segment. So enjoy that
