In the midst of a land rooted in Persian mythology, the Prince finds himself caught in an epic battle between the forces of Good and Evil: the God of Light, Ormazd, against his brother Ahriman, the God of Evil and destruction. He becomes a witness to the destruction of the legendary Tree of Life - an act which threatens to plunge the world into darkness for eternity. A black substance called "The Corruption" begins to contaminate the ground and even the sky itself. Our heroic Prince, together with the enigmatic and dangerous Elika, must do all that he can to rid the world from this ultimate evil.
Featuring a re-imagined Prince and a beautiful cel-shaded world, Prince of Persia is chock full of the awesome acrobatics and free-form fighting that are the series’ hallmark. A huge, open world awaits you, intrepid adventurer. Will you be the one to cleanse the world of Ahriman's corruptive influence?
Non-linear gameplay in a detailed, open-ended world.
Masterful storytelling and lavish environments guarantee a cinematic action-adventure experience
Introducing Elika, a deadly and mysterious ally, who’s gifted with magical talents and dazzling acrobatic prowess.
I remember playing this game for the first time - it's one of the first titles to really get story telling right, with compellingly deep characters, banter between the prince and Elika, romance, drama and overarcing plot. The graphics are gorgeous, with lots of attention to detail, the platformer mechanics well thought out and also following a progression. I'd compare this to darksiders I and II, as well as the latest tomb raider. Well worth playing and owning.
I own the (DRM-free) DVD version and I enjoyed the game very much.
The movements and controls are incredibly fluid, figuring out how to collect all light seeds is fun and the frustration factor is low.
If you want to swing, fly and jump around a beautiful landscape without feeling the need to eat your controller, than this is the game for you.
Contrary to the "monkey" claims in other comments I didn't find the game so easy that there's no deep sense of satisfaction once you managed to get this one elusive light seed you were missing in an area.
You could criticize the limited replay value - once you've seen everything, you've seen everything. But I played the game twice with a break of one year in between and although I remembered the landscapes I had to figure out anew how to get the light seeds and it was as much fun as the first time.
I play the series since 1994. This one is my favorite. Great story-telling, smooth gameplay, awesome graphics! It's worth it ... but it's different. For example, you cannot die, but that's a good thing here. It's a playable fairy tale ... and heroes don't die! :-D Anyway, I like this one very much. I'll play it again ... right away! ;-)
While it received a lot of critical flack for its lack of death and ease of gameplay, I think a lot of people missed out on the beauty that the game presents them. The gameplay is fluid as hell, the mini-boss-only battles are fun and the game is gorgeous to look at. A lot of people disliked the new prince, but I personally thought he's more realistic than the Sands of Time prince (though he was great, too). The story is nice with a pretty neat ending, but the only thing lacking is that the game ends on a cliffhanger (true for both the normal ending and the extended ending of the DLC, which this version lacks). My only hope is that enough people buy this game so that Ubisoft can continue its story.
