In the midst of a land rooted in Persian mythology, the Prince finds himself caught in an epic battle between the forces of Good and Evil: the God of Light, Ormazd, against his brother Ahriman, the God of Evil and destruction. He becomes a witness to the destruction of the legendary Tree of Life - an act which threatens to plunge the world into darkness for eternity. A black substance called "The Corruption" begins to contaminate the ground and even the sky itself. Our heroic Prince, together with the enigmatic and dangerous Elika, must do all that he can to rid the world from this ultimate evil.
Featuring a re-imagined Prince and a beautiful cel-shaded world, Prince of Persia is chock full of the awesome acrobatics and free-form fighting that are the series’ hallmark. A huge, open world awaits you, intrepid adventurer. Will you be the one to cleanse the world of Ahriman's corruptive influence?
Non-linear gameplay in a detailed, open-ended world.
Masterful storytelling and lavish environments guarantee a cinematic action-adventure experience
Introducing Elika, a deadly and mysterious ally, who’s gifted with magical talents and dazzling acrobatic prowess.
Buyer beware, the games ending is a cliffhanger that only gets resolved from DLC that is only available on console which means that unless you dig up a copy and can still find and purchase this story DLC, you won't be able to complete the games plot.
Maybe the game is good, but I see no reason to buy a game without the true ending.
According to Ubisoft's community manager, the Epilogue DLC was only released on consoles and not on PC for "commercial reasons".
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
On the whole this is a reasonably good game which unfortunately was prevented from being a true classic by some rather stupid design decisions.
Why do you have to press the E key repeatedly to get Elika to heal the Fertile grounds? There's no challenge at that point, why should I have to wear out the keys on keyboard instead of just pressing it once?
Why does the section where you have to carry Elika literally consist of about a minute of the player only pressing the W key?
Why did no one point out that having combat that almost entirely consists of quicktime events is boring but that in cases where you have a very small platform to fight on, you'll trigger them every few hits?
These are minor complaints that sum up the whole game for me. Throughout the game I was left wondering who thought this decision was a good idea.
The gameplay feels unpolished, which is a pity because it seems like a lot of time was spent on everything else.
This game is quite fun. At the core, it's a series of movement puzzles. The basic moves are jumps, wall runs, vaults and bar swings. The magic buttons you unlock later add a variety of impressive traversal sections: flying, leaping, running on the walls and ceilings like a spider. The graphic style is bright and unique, it aged gracefully and stands out among the drabness of that era of games.
The game doesn't have a fail state, you just try over and over - a brave move, in my opinion. This might seem like a total deal breaker. But you still have to do acrobatic sections over and over until you nail them.
Where it fails is the combat part. You get the same 5 or 6 enemies over and over, fight them one-on-one, in boring and unfairly restricted arenas. The combat heavily relies on quick-time-events and especially on mashing buttons quickly. This didn't age well, even if this was normal at the time, it feels borderline dumb today. You also get to do combos, but they are trivial.
In addition, I think they went a bit overboard with the flying sections of the game. The flying buttons send you flying on convoluted trajectories, you have little of control to avoid obstacles, and it's unclear half of the time which way you are supposed to go.
Another complaint is the way the game is structured, you have to beat a level - an open arena map, and then you activate the light seeds - collectable "coins" - that you have to gather around the map. This forces you to explore the map over and over. It gets boring pretty fast to go back and forth trying to scrape enough seeds to unlock new maps.
This version of the game is a bit frustrating: the intro, movies and in-game dialogue scenes are unskippable (tip: delete the movie files to skip the intro). The button labels are a bit confusing, whether you have an Xbox or Playstation controller, it takes a bit of time to get used to it. It took me a bit of googling to get it to work properly.
This is the best looking of all PoP games, unfortunatly the gameplay it's horrible.
The beggining it's cool, but after that you have to complete some platforming areas with very few enemies(something like one or two per area), after passing and area you have to pass it again collecting lums (I stopped to playing this game after see that I was supposed to collect lums, collecting lums it's good for Rayman but not for PoP).
All the fights are one vs one, forgot the great combat system of the SoT series, forgot all the traps, and one remains the ptaforming elements.
This game isn't challenging, doesn't have any traps, have very few fights and it's very repetitive.
Maybe you can say that this PoP have exporation, but I didn't find fun to explore because most of the zones looks very similar (dark and grey at the beggining and green after finishing it).
Also, the story isn't great, but the story is not the strong point in any Prince of Persia(if you want a good story play Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VII, not action-adventure games).
Ohhh, one last thing: yo cannot die. I don't think it's a great fault, I think the worst faults was removing traps, reducing the combat and adding the lums.
