I recommend it, but with caveats

I've played it through multiple times on console, and now grabbing this on sale to check out Mooncrash. Prey itself is a solid-enough ventilation duct simulator, but the amount of backtracking you can potentially end up doing does make the second half of the game into a slog. I should also add that I really dislike the final ten minutes, but that's just like, my opinion, man... That said, I still really enjoy exploring Talos I, and I especially like having a game installed where I can just load up a save to go drift around in zero g for a while. I might even consider picking up a vr headset if they ever release a sequel, if for no other reason than to zero g it up like a true belter. Giving only 3 out of 5 because, while I do genuinely like certain elements of Prey (enough to have picked up a second copy here), I consider it to have some pretty significant drawbacks as well. Not a bad purchase now that it's fully patched, on GOG, and under ten bucks.

An advanced variation on Bioshock

After completing both Bioshock 1 and 2 remastered and getting hooked on the FPS-RPG combination with management of weapons and resources I went looking for a more complex challenge. System shock was too much for my little head. Prey struck the right balance and brought many elements of added realism. This game allows you to freely wander around a space easily 5 times larger than what you find in Bioshock as well as float around in ... space! Play it in 4K to enjoy to the fullest! Expect to take between 25 to 50 hours to complete. Maybe more if you try to do all the secondary objectives.

Not as good as I hoped...

The main game setting of a space-station = awesome. The graphical style of the game was very nice. The skill trees, skills, menus and inventory systems were pretty well-designed. There was a lot of task repetition, unfortunately. Controlling the character to do certain things was a little clunky compared to most games I play, so the main character was a clutz. It was still satisfying to smash the nasty murdering tar-blob "mimics" (which remind me of the alien part of the comic character Venom crossed with the Skin Of Evil). One thing I didn't expect was that the game plot involved a naive player being presented with competing narratives by different parties. Being withheld facts relevant to the story until a certain point created some 'reveal' moments. Prey had some surprise twists at a couple places in the story. But as the story unfolded it revealed a pretty lame and boring one - I found the story more than a little lacking. The characters also seemed disappointingly unreal and often too limited. There were not enough interactions between characters, or consequences, for the most part. I don't want to spoil the plot so I'll just say that, in a sense, maybe the shallow coldness of certain characters fit well with the story? Players might develop a dislike for the main character as the plot progresses. About 50% of the fun in the game was in the first hour, 30% was in the ending, and the rest was mostly when the character was falling. It's great there are multiple endings, but some of the ending variants are definitely not worth another playthrough. I became pretty tired of the focus on questing to find out how someone-or-other died horribly. I think they ran out of shocking ways to show how vulnerable people can be terribly victimized by evil-incarnate tar-blobs.

Super awesome!

Prey is a game that follows in the footsteps of old school games like Deus Ex, Thief, and newer ones like Dishonored. There's a lot of variety to styles of play and the world is highly interactive. It's a super awesome game worth full price but goes on sale for an absolute steal at $9.99 all the time! If you like mystery, puzzles, action, and immersive storytelling this game is for you.

Best FPS I've played in years!

What an awesome experience playing this game was - wow! From the start to the end, I enjoyed every minute of it. The story is gripping, with multiple choices littered throughout the game, which influences the plot and eventually the ending!!! That coupled with a detailed level-up system, catering to different playstyles, means that this game has so much replayability. The feel of the game makes for a refined classic FPS experience - like the good old days; however, it possesses enough innovation to keep it fresh and modern. I found the game to be very immersive and atmospheric; I am an audiophile and there is enough ambient noise in this game to cause you to tread carefully (and look over your shoulder!) The greatest plus for me though is the space stations level design and exploration - this game does not hold your hand from point A to B like most games today. Instead, it piques you intrigue and makes you want to revisit areas that were once inaccessible, often resulting in a rewarding experience. I have only completed the game once, which means one day I am going to fire it up again and have another crack - it's just that good. If you buy it at today's offer price, there's no way you will be disappointed. Enjoy!
