As the offspring of almighty Zeus, you demand a seat among the gods. But before ascending to the top of Mt. Olympus, you must first defeat some of the most powerful deities in the Greek pantheon. Such a task would be impossible for a puny mortal, but you wield the raw power of the universe in your hands, for you are destined to become a god! Learn to shatter the sky with lightning and shower the earth with fire. Summon heroes to aid your people, and plagues to destroy the enemy. Call forth tornadoes, hurricanes, tidal waves, and columns of flame.
The second installment of Bullfrog's Populous series follows the path set by its predecessor and remains one of the greatest god-games ever created. Populous 2: Trials of the Olympian Gods vastly improves the formula by adding new spells, better quality sound and graphics, and a character development system that allows you to customize your divine powers in any way you want. You really can’t go wrong with a game where you can kill gods, obliterate entire continents, and strike down upon the infidels with great vengeance and furious anger. Just as Peter Molyneux, those things simply never get old.
Greatly improved gameplay with many new spells, an enhanced interface, and a system for customizing your deity's awesome powers.
1000 maps on which to wage your epic battles against gods and many different mythical creatures.
A great way to feed your desires to become omnipotent and maybe learn something about Greek mythology in the process.

Oh boy, this gonna be a very short review.
Populous 2 :Trials of the Olympian Gods is basically the first.. just bigger (in spells) and better (in functionality), and instead having a non-defining deity you have the olympian gods as your enemies.
As a god simulator, you'll be expected to guide your people to victory using your powers to raise the land or creating champions and so much more. Plus, the game is, like, HUGE, tons of levels (a little bit repetitive in some part but if you like the system, you'll love it).
So, it's a big, GODLY yes! won't be disappointed!
I do not give Populous II 5 stars out of nostalgy, but because it is incredibly fun even nowaday.
The gameplay is simple albeit brilliant: acting as a god (to be more precise, a demi-god aspiring to godhood) the player has at his disposal a wide array of divine intervention to wipe away the infidel "evil" reds and to increase at the same time the number of loyal worshipers from the "good" blue tribe,
map after map, until is given the chance to claim godhood from Zeus himself.
The game has a huge number of maps (the first tens are basically the tutorial but the player is expected to read the manual to understand a few basic concepts) and, out of the "conquest" mode where maps are played sequentially under predetermined conditions, there is a "sandbox" mode to increase replayability (which is basically limitless); the player does not have to play all the 1000 maps, but, depending on the score, may skip several of them after each victory: this ensures a balanced challenge, even if sometimes may seem needlessly repetitive.
Being 20 years old graphics are not so fancy, but are nonetheless functional and even cute to a certain extent (by the way, in my opinion 2d games suffer much less than 3d ones under this regard) and, once the game begins, I get sucked in and do not care anymore; certain sound effects were nasty even at the time (e.g. the plague) but disabling them would make the game harder.
In the years there have been several "god games" (the best was Black and White) but no other title came close to Populous II in giving the same feeling of "unrestricted power" within the limits of its standard rules
The sound on the Amiga version was MUCH better but this is the DOS version. It is still a 5 star game. This version has more options and better game play than the original. This is another Historical Game that deserves buying and play to recapture a part of Computer Gaming History. Do it!
