Proof positive that less is more. All this game has is sick-looking cars, a killer narrative premise, beautiful art direction, and one objective: win the race. And that’s all it needs. Brutally challenging at higher difficulties, viscerally satisfying every time you hit a jump just right or smack an opponent out of your way, and just plain fun. Never mind the PS1-era graphics. This game, to me, illustrates that art direction beats technical perfection every time. Still a treat to look at. Plus, this version comes with all 32 tracks instead of just the original 16. Worth twice the price, easily.

I've been trying to get this to work on anything later than W95 for years, it's fantastic to see it here. An original take on the apocalypse racer, it blends a trippy, ambient soundtrack with bright and interesting visuals to provide a unique and compelling downbeat atmosphere. The graphical variety can make the tracks confusing at first but their uniqueness helps them stick in the memory. The AI is strikingly better than some modern, AAA racers giving a satisfying level of challenge although individually-named opponents do all drive in the same way. Aggressively, that is. Definitely a good addition to GOG and the games catalogue of anyone kind enough to be reading this.

And it's not only nostalgia talking! Wish anybody could mod this with upscaling resolution and textures, I might be checking this every month to see if anyone skilled made smth like this! Art direction is incredible, music too, car design too. Damn I wish Ubisoft could still exist

The special at the POD arcade racing game are the unusually fantasy road designs. They have sometimes obstacle and jumps and are diversified. In this gold edition there are 32 roads, and that is a lot for a game from 1999.
