Description
Planet Nomads is a sci-fi sandbox game of survival on alien planets through block-style building. You are a lone astronaut scientist crash-landing on a strangely captivating planet. Keeping your wit together and securing your basic survival needs that include food, water and building material is the best start towards figuring out a way out of this messy situation.

Planet Nomads delivers a unique gaming experience by combining building, survival and exploration together to make you you feel like a true survivor.

Building
Building is the cornerstone of Planet Nomads. What you build determines your survival chances and increases your action radius. Building helps you to progress further and uncover advanced materials. Close to a hundred blocks await to let you create nearly anything your imagination can come up with.

Exploration
You may have explored your immediate surrounding, but a couple kilometers North or South, things are radically different. Multiple biomes cover the planet from pole to pole depending on the climate. Sandy engine blends the biomes naturally, making sure the journey to the North pole is an epic and everchanging adventure.

Survival
Surviving on an inhabited planet is no easy task, but with careful planning, caution and a healthy amount of curiosity, you can do it. As long as you overcome poisonous plants and curious beasts, avoid being slashed to pieces, frozen to death, eaten alive, starved and generally ended.

Planet Nomads has been successfully Kickstarted, is now going through its Game in Development phase and it's being developed and improved together with our growing Nomadic family. You are most welcome to join us.

How does the life of a Nomad look like?

Day 17
Things have changed radically since my crash-landing. During the first days, I was hardly able to get food. Securing every meal was a life or death struggle back then, while now I have greenhouses to produce food for me. The planet felt strangely Earth-like at first, with atmosphere composition close enough to ours so that the suit filters have no problem processing it for me to breath. Then one day I saw a pack of creatures that looked like some kind of armored gorillas. I was watching them for a while when the biggest one saw me. It stood on its legs and started thumping its chest. I got the message loud and clear and quickly departed.

Day 21
I have a good thing going. I started growing all of my food. I've built a rover and use it to collect resources from nearby mining spots I set up. It's beautiful out here, but it's not like I intend to settle down and grow old. I'm a building a much bigger version of the rover now. With some clever design choices I should be able to fit it with a generator, 3D printer and stasis chamber so it's all self-reliable and caring to all my needs. I intend to check what's beyond the horizon. Maybe there's a way out. Maybe there are other survivors out there.

Day 26
There was an unexpected turn of events today. The armored gorillas paid me a visit. I don't think they like the mining machines that much so they came to tell me. I thought I could hide inside the base and wait it out, but the beasts started throwing huge rocks at the walls and the walls were caving in with a screeching noise all around me. I fired up the one mining machine I have in my base to serve as a distraction. Luckily enough I scheduled a test run of my new mobile base for this day. It was standing by all powered up and ready. I made a run for it, quickly got into the cockpit and got away this time. But there's no going back now. I'm a Nomad.

Hundreds of stories like this await you in Planet Nomads. Come and survive your own.

Forever EA Title

~19 Bucks is asking a lot for the game in it's current state. Its fun solo building your base but it has (design) issues: - it looks like no man's lie which makes it rather dull eg generated wildlife - performance issues and glitches - some parts are intuitive while others are clearly not eg connecting generator to base fabs vs unintuitive how do i get my vehicle to run. There are also issues with snaping base walls - its sometimes not very precise. - you have to deal with prefabed parts, there's no free blockbuilding here - multiplayer was promised then they axed it, big minus. Galaxy is also not here...nms... - degregation: yay another survival game that thinks survival is about running around and clicking on every base part that looses health just because time passes by. Get rid of that crap and pose some real challenges to the player and not just distract him and steal his time pls. - Controls are a bit clunky too, i'm not sure but the game looks like its made for console too so mayb there are these kind of issues too. I played a couple hours yet and i might use it when i want some relaxed base building after work. If i find a way to get around the damn degregation of course... General impression is: Its far from finished but it's not very clear what finished will mean especially since devs broke promises already. If you must, wait for sale, full price not worth imo and too many question marks.

A pity.

Recently, I found this game again in my GOG library and decided to give it a try. I had tried it originally a few years ago, and found that it locked up from time to time, and decided that I would let it gestate for a bit before trying again. When I tried it again, things were...uh....a tiny bit better, but that's being generous. I am running this game on a Linux box, with an RX 580, 8 core 4GHZ AMD CPU, and 16 GB of Ram, and this game has difficulty rendering from time to time. As in, if I am mining too much, moving too much, the entire game will lock up for 10+ seconds, before continuing again. After the second or third lock up, the game manages to cause my graphics driver to seize up, turn all of my screens into a picture of the Plaid dimension, and force me to hard reboot my computer. That really sucks, because I really dig the idea of this game. Resource collection is serviceable, and its nice to have a material processor doing things while I'm working on exploring, objectives, and not dying so that when I come back, I can work on my base. That is! Unless the graphics driver murder occurs before a save happens, and you lose all of your work. I really wanted to like this game a lot. But with bugs this bad and ultimately not revolutionary or fun game play, it just isn't up to par. Bummer.

Neat, but forever incomplete

TLDR: get it if there's a deep discount and keep your expectations low. The native Linux build of the game works great. There's a lot of promise in Planet Nomads. It's a mining/crafting/building/survival/exploration game, but in 3D. From what I know, there are several other games like that, but they're either Minecraft or on Steam only and therefore completely useless to me. So from that perspective, PN is unique. But. There are several caveats. The game is fundamentally incomplete - let's not mince words here. There's item storage, but it's clunky. There's automated item transport, but you have no way of filtering items and so you'll end up with a mash of everything everywhere if you make the mistake of wiring your mining rig up to your storage crates. Transport propagates through machines, so you can't even use that as a barrier. There's automated and infinite production for minerals and water... but no means by which you can set up an infinite production line. You have to go up to everything and manually enter items into a queue which will eventually run out and need to be set up again. And there's one critical resource (biomass) which can only be obtained by manually cutting down trees, in spite of everything else having an automated flow. Combat? Very unbalanced - by the time you finally tech up enough to build a rifle, you'll already have a vehicle. And it's so much easier to just get in your car and run over the enemies. They can't hurt you when you're inside and it'll never run out of "ammo". And none of this will ever change. The last update for the game was 4 years ago. One of the other reviewers mentioned issues getting it to work under Linux. My experience was actually flawless - so there *is* that on its side. I suspect their problem was the CPU - this game needs a lot of CPU grunt for worldgen. Graphics... not so much. I'm using a Radeon 6500XT with a Ryzen 5600 and it runs beautifully. Was it Debian's fault? No idea. I run OpenSuSE Tumbleweed.

Abandoned early access game

Got 139 hours on it in Steam, the devs unfortunately abandoned the game but as a last thing they bumped the version number and pretended it's a finished game, unfortunately it's not and probably never will be. You can build cool things, then drive over something and have hit propel your contraption into orbit for no apparent reason, among many other issues.

Sooo Glitchy

Well - wish I hadn't bought this. The IDEA behind the game is epic, basically MineCraft, but realistic and in space. The actual game development though...holy cow what a bomb. It's not ready for release. Why is GOG selling this stuff? This is literally the second game I've bought that's so glitchy and poorly put together that it's not even really playable. It is quite obvious that English is also a second language of the creators, because their grammar is awful and breaks the ability to submerge into the game. The controls are awkward, confusing and slow to respond. The objectives layout is complicated and confusing. Save your money - and ask GOG not to sell stuff like this. It's like buying a toy you THINK is ready for market, but then discover it's a pre-prototype, not even meant to be on the shelves. I'm asking for a refund. Save your money. (When the game developers FINISH the game, it could be awesome. Great idea, but lazily executed. Worthless as is.)
