Description
Planet Nomads is a sci-fi sandbox game of survival on alien planets through block-style building. You are a lone astronaut scientist crash-landing on a strangely captivating planet. Keeping your wit together and securing your basic survival needs that include food, water and building material is the best start towards figuring out a way out of this messy situation.

Planet Nomads delivers a unique gaming experience by combining building, survival and exploration together to make you you feel like a true survivor.

Building
Building is the cornerstone of Planet Nomads. What you build determines your survival chances and increases your action radius. Building helps you to progress further and uncover advanced materials. Close to a hundred blocks await to let you create nearly anything your imagination can come up with.

Exploration
You may have explored your immediate surrounding, but a couple kilometers North or South, things are radically different. Multiple biomes cover the planet from pole to pole depending on the climate. Sandy engine blends the biomes naturally, making sure the journey to the North pole is an epic and everchanging adventure.

Survival
Surviving on an inhabited planet is no easy task, but with careful planning, caution and a healthy amount of curiosity, you can do it. As long as you overcome poisonous plants and curious beasts, avoid being slashed to pieces, frozen to death, eaten alive, starved and generally ended.

Planet Nomads has been successfully Kickstarted, is now going through its Game in Development phase and it's being developed and improved together with our growing Nomadic family. You are most welcome to join us.

How does the life of a Nomad look like?

Day 17
Things have changed radically since my crash-landing. During the first days, I was hardly able to get food. Securing every meal was a life or death struggle back then, while now I have greenhouses to produce food for me. The planet felt strangely Earth-like at first, with atmosphere composition close enough to ours so that the suit filters have no problem processing it for me to breath. Then one day I saw a pack of creatures that looked like some kind of armored gorillas. I was watching them for a while when the biggest one saw me. It stood on its legs and started thumping its chest. I got the message loud and clear and quickly departed.

Day 21
I have a good thing going. I started growing all of my food. I've built a rover and use it to collect resources from nearby mining spots I set up. It's beautiful out here, but it's not like I intend to settle down and grow old. I'm a building a much bigger version of the rover now. With some clever design choices I should be able to fit it with a generator, 3D printer and stasis chamber so it's all self-reliable and caring to all my needs. I intend to check what's beyond the horizon. Maybe there's a way out. Maybe there are other survivors out there.

Day 26
There was an unexpected turn of events today. The armored gorillas paid me a visit. I don't think they like the mining machines that much so they came to tell me. I thought I could hide inside the base and wait it out, but the beasts started throwing huge rocks at the walls and the walls were caving in with a screeching noise all around me. I fired up the one mining machine I have in my base to serve as a distraction. Luckily enough I scheduled a test run of my new mobile base for this day. It was standing by all powered up and ready. I made a run for it, quickly got into the cockpit and got away this time. But there's no going back now. I'm a Nomad.

Hundreds of stories like this await you in Planet Nomads. Come and survive your own.

Decent right now, lots of potential

Based on patch 0.6.13.0 - survival mode As of now things are fun, frustrating, and slow. First the tutorial needs works, but once you spend a little time reading the pop ups when hovering over things you learn pretty quick. Harvesting resources and making items is kind of slow. It may go faster with some kind of automation but I never make it that far. Building a vehicle is fun driving can be a little frustrating. Mainly due to th camera, same for just walking. First person perspective will give most people motion sickness and 3rd person can be annoying with the restrictions on movement angles. Oh and accidentally falling into an underwater cave with your vehicle is horrible. I've learned it's better to just disassemble it and make a new one. I spent many hours trying to get it out with the wench and I did of starvation doing so. Brick placement (I'll refer to anything as a brick like wall, tires, doors, floors, ceilings, etc.) can be difficult at times. It's not always easy knowing where the game wants/thinks a brick should be placed. Sometimes it's easier to do in first person mode, sometimes third person is better. Maybe if they added some other way to control placement other than where your mouse is pointed. There is plenty of survival aspects and they appear to learn more toward realism. Getting started with what you need to make food and water is difficult. I find purifying water to be the most time consuming and painful task because of what you need just to do. Herbs aren't easy to find and neither are seeds used to grow them. The guys has a multitool to build crap but he can't build a machine to purify? He has to use hard to harvest herbs.. TL;DR; difficult survival aspects, some controls need work, a little frustration mixed with fun, but a little slow in the gameplay department. Lots of potential.

Not too promising

The main problem of this: The game lacks a clear concept. Not a tense story like Subnautica, no digging or "build a shelter" like Minecraft, no open universe like No Man's Sky. It is not clear for me where the trip is going from here. It feels like someone just started and tried putting up something that is somehow like those other games. There is one aspect that is clearly present right now that is the building of customized vehicles. What is in there right now: The terrain is quite uniteresting, exact digging is impossible and filling up accidentially holes is impossible too. The water is just a level, no glimpse of spreading, gameplay or physical impact here. Dig to sea level: Water - no matter where. Basebuilding is tedious but it works, the use of a base is quite limited. Survival? Well it is not easy at the beginning but because you just do not know what to do. Environmental parameters are not simulated very well currently and current health state is just to be seen by the numbers (poison, rain and radiation are lowering all the same property). Animals are all spawning around a fix spawnpoint, they do not leave it. Crafting is standard and building is good but there is no creativity required as blocks are predefined. Connecting electricity is always a pain in the ass (you need to connect everything manually) but the connection via pipes of different machines is innovative and quite a nice concept. I love survival games but this one seems to be rather unready (even for early access). Current version: 0.8.1

Came around

Reading through the other comments I think this game had a difficult history but came around nicely. There are a few rough edges left and it's somewhat on the short side but that can still change. Most of the time playing this game is actually spent doing something like exploring and gathering resources and not just waiting. In fact, you can cut short long waiting times by sleeping (in game). Vehicles work great for traveling long distances and from what I understand this was a really sore point in older versions. A point of improvement could be water-travel, either by boat or submarine, as of now there are only land- and air-based vehicles possible with air travel being by far the fasted and most efficient way. Building and constructing is fine and you can put up small houses and large bases alike. Production and most resource gathering can be automated and construction materials can even be sent wirelessly, which seems to not have been possible in earlier version. So, most of the negative critics are no longer valid aside from the game story being somewhat too short. One sore point shouldn't be left out: Some of the in-game texts really need proofreading. Not only because of spelling mistakes but also because specific descriptions are sometimes plainly wrong and some of the crew storylines clash with each other. Aside that, I've really enjoyed playing this game several times over with different settings and seed values for the planet. One advice for new players: Don't configure the planet to be too small or too flat and don't lower the waterline too much. My suggestion would be to choose ¾ of the maximum size and leave water and terrain level at standard, this works out pretty well. Yes, there will be high mountains maybe even in the desert or lava regions full of godillos and pumps won't work there, but that's ok. And even if you already know the game and what resources you'll need later on, it's still a lot of fun playing it - that's good game design!

Good single-player sandbox game

It's a good game to relax yourself during exploring and building your bases and vehicles. I have read other reviews. I can say nothing about early access state of the past, I also haven't played other similar games like No Man's Sky and others. Agree, there is no multiplayer in this game, there are no space flights, there are just 6 animal species. But nevertheless the game has good construction system, good graphics, good physics, beautiful colours and charming atmosphere. The planet is huge. The game runs smoothly (excluding autosave moments), till now I have encountered no severe bugs. Yep, translations are a weak point, so maybe it's better to play in English. I got the game on the spring sale, and I would say, that for that price the game definitely worth it. My System Specs: Linux Mint 19.3 Intel Core i7-4770S Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 8 GB RAM
